MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A strong offensive effort by Tulane's (32-16-1, 15-4-1 C-USA) James Burgess and Steve Shirley led the Green Wave to a 9-3 win over Memphis (15-30, 8-11 C-USA) on Saturday.
Shirley and Burgess each drove in a game high pair of runs. On the afternoon, Shirley was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run scored, while Burgess was 1-for-1 with a single run scored.
A late Tulane rally broke open a close 3-1 Green Wave lead through five innings. The Wave score six runs over the last four innings on a wild pitch and a passed ball, three singles and a sacrifice bunt to take game two of the series 9-3.
Green Wave starting pitcher Henry Bonilla (6-3) picked up his sixth win of the season. He went seven innings, scattered nine hits, and gave up two runs, one earned. Bonilla struck out seven. Matt Foster pitched the final two innings. Foster gave up two hits and one runs.
Tiger starting pitcher Jonathan Leicester (0-10) got the loss. He struck out three, walked five, gave up fouor hits and three runs.
The teams wrap up the three game series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
