Tulane Baseball Finishes Season At NCAA Starkville Regional

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Tulane (38-22-1) baseball team was eliminated from the 2000 NCAA Regional by Notre Dame (45-17) 10-6 on Saturday evening.
Tulane's James Jurries hit his 12 home run of the year and just the second of the tournament to give the Wave an early 3-0 lead. The game was delayed in the third inning due to tornadoes in the immediate area. The Green Wave held a 5-0 lead after a 2 hour and 19 minute rain delay, but the Irish came back and took the lead in the eighth as Alec Porzel hit his second double of the game to give Notre Dame a 9-6 lead.
Jurries was 1-for-3 with a home run and five RBI.
Starting Tulane pitcher Dan O'Gara held the Irish scoreless until the until the sixth when Jeff Felker doubled scoring Notre Dame's first run of the ball game. O'Gara went 6 1/3 innings gave up five runs and struck out seven.
The losing pitcher was Nick Bourgeois (1-2). He went one inning gave up four hits and four runs.
Notre Dame's John Corbin (5-3) for the Irish in what was his longest outing of the season. Corbin went and gave up hits.
In the early game Tulane eliminated South Alabama 4-3. Henry Bonilla (9-3) pitched his fourth complete game of the season. He scattered nine hits gave up three runs and struck out six.
Heading in to the seventh, South Alabama starting pitcher Layne Meyer held the Wave to just three hits but Tulane's Matt Groff started a rally with a lead off single. James Jurries and Jake Gautreau hit back-to-back RBI doubles, tying the game at two runs each. Green Wave freshman James Burgess pinch hit and gave TU the lead with a single into right.
Tulane's Henry Bonilla got the win, his ninth of the year. The game was the fourth complete games of the season for Bonilla.
The losing pitcher was Joe Long (4-2) who went four innings and gave up one run.
