
Tulane Baseball Falls To Southern Miss

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Southern Miss (31-21, 15-7 C-USA) put up five runs in the seventh inning en route to a 7-4 win over Tulane (35-17-1, 18-5-1 C-USA) on Sunday afternoon.
Despite out hitting the Golden Eagles 13-11, the Tulane Green Wave left a total of 13 men stranded on the base paths including nine in scoring position.
The Green Wave broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning as James Jurries scored on a wild pitch by USM reliever Chad Christian. Tulane added a run in the sixth but Southern Miss' DeQuincy Scott doubled down the right field line in the seventh, sending in the go ahead run plus an insurance run. Prior to the double Scott was 0-for-7 in the previous two games.
The five runs posted in the seventh gave Southern Miss the 7-4 win as Golden Eagle's Danny Stout held Tulane scoreless through the last two innings earning his 3 save of the year.
Christian (4-2) got the win for Southern Miss as he went 2 2/3 innings gave up five hits and two runs. He did not record a strikeout and walked one.
Losing pitcher Dan O'Gara (5-4) Went 6 2/3 innings scattered six hits and gave up six runs, only one earned. He struck out three. Brandon Belanger went the final two innings holding USM scoreless.
For Tulane, Andy Cannizaro, Mickey McKee and Jake Gautreau each sent in runs. Gautreau hit the only home run of the game, as he was 2-for-4.
USM's Scott was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a pair of RBI.
Tulane travels to Tampa, Fla., to take on the Bulls of South Florida in a three game series.
