Volleyball Degfeats Southern Mississippi, 3-1

NEW ORLEANS, La. Despite the fact the Golden Eagles recorded more kills than the Wave Tulane , the Tulane (7-4. 1-0 C-USA) volleyball team won its first Conference USA match of the season, a 3-1 victory over Southern Miss (5-6, 0-1 C-USA). The game scores were 15-10, 15-9, 7-15, 15-4.
The Green Wave overcame a 10-3 Golden Eagle lead in the first game and scored 12 unanswered point for a 15-10 take of the game. Freshman Lauren Jones-McClain was an integral part of the Wave win in game one, as she was a perfect 5-for-5. TU took game two 15-9 before dropping game three 15-7. Tulane cruised through the fourth game, outscoring USM 15-4 for the victory.
The win marks the first time in three years that the Green Wave has won its C-USA opener.
Senior Kim Sentmore led the Wave with 11 kills. Junior Erin Dobyanski had 11 digs and seven blocks, both team highs. Jones-McClain also had seven blocks.
USM's Kelly Tribble posted a match high 16 kills.
Tulane hits the road this weekend as they take on C-USA rivals South Florida and Houston. The Wave plays USF on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., and Houston on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.
