Tulane Baseball Tops Cincinnati, 9-6

Despite a late inning rally by the Bearcats, the Tulane (21-5, 3-2 C-USA) baseball team defeated Cincinnati (13-8, 2-3 C-USA) 9-6 on Saturday afternoon.
The Green Wave pounced first, scoring four runs in the first and second innings. Jake Gautreau, Steve Shirley and Anthony Giarratano sent in runs in the first. The second inning rally was highlighted by Matt Groff's three-run home run into right.
Cincinnati's Kevin Youkilis drove in the Bearcats' first run of the afternoon in the third on a single into left.
Bearcat starting pitcher Kenny Fields (3-1) got the loss for UC. He gave up eight runs in two innings. Fields was replaced by Tony Maynard in third and he kept the Wave at bay. He allowed two hits in four innings of relief and struck out four.
TU's Jon Kaplan sent in an additional in the sixth to give the Wave a 9-1 lead.
Cincinnati scored five runs in the last three innings including four runs in the ninth with two outs.
Green Wave's Andrew Corona (3-1) got the win. He went a season high eight innings, gave up two runs, struck out three and walked none.
Tulane held on for the win, the team's second straight.
Kaplan was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. He hit a career high two doubles. Gautreau also posted two hits and sent in two runs. Michael Aubrey sent in two runs. Matt Groff hit his second home run of the season.
Cincinnati's Brett Clark was 4-for-5 with a team high two RBI.
The teams wrap up the series on Sunday at noon.
