NEW ORLEANS, La. -- James Jurries lifted the Tulane (22-1, 4-1 C-USA) baseball team past Cincinnati (13-9, 2-4 C-USA) with a game winning hit in the sixth inning to give the Wave a 5-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.
For the first time in the series the Green Wave trailed Cincinnati as the Bearcats scored one run in the second and one in the third to take an early 2-0 lead. Kevin Youkilis singled in the run in the first and the next run scored on a wild pitch by Tulane starter Beau Richardson.
Cincinnati starting pitcher Kyle DiEduardo (3-1) held the Wave to just three hits through four innings. The Cincinnati lead and possible shut out was erased in the sixth as Matt Groff hit a two-run triple in to center. He then scored on a single by James Jurries giving the Wave a 3-2 advantage.
Richardson left the game in the eighth after giving up a lead off double. Barth Melius entered the game and snuffed the Bearcat threat as he retired the side with two strikeouts and a ground out. He gave the Wave two innings of scoreless relief and struck out three. Melius picked up the second save of the season.
Tulane put up and additional two runs in the eighth for a 5-2 win.
