Cowboys Defeat Rebels, 16-7, To Advance To Regional Final

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Oklahoma State reliever Jimmy Rhodes scattered five hits over seven innings to lead the Cowboys to a 16-7 win over the Rebels at Turchin Stadium in the New Orleans Regional on Saturday.
Oklahoma State, seeded third in the regional, improves to 42-21 and advances to face host and top seed Tulane in the championship round on Sunday. The Cowboys can advance to next weekend's Super Regional round with a pair of wins over the Green Wave on Sunday. Ole Miss ended its season with a 39-23-1 record.
Ole Miss led 5-4 heading into the top of the third, when Rhodes replaced OSU starter. Rhodes gave up just one hit through his first four innings of work. He allowed just two earned runs and two walks, while recording two strikeouts, to improve to 4-1 on the season.
With Rhodes shutting down the Rebel offense, Oklahoma State piled on the runs. The Cowboys had 17 hits and scored 15 runs in the first six innings and were never really threatened after putting up four runs in the fourth.
Jimbo McAuliffe led the Oklahoma State offense with four hits in six at-bats. OSU?s Luke Scott was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI.
Ole Miss starter Dan McShea (4-6) took the loss for the Rebels, allowing six runs on four hits through two innings of work.
