ST. LOUIS (AP) - Angie Lewis made a free throw with 2:01 remaining, giving Saint Louis a 57-56 victory over No. 20 Tulane on Sunday.
Lewis sank the first attempt of a 1-and-1 to give Saint Louis (9-7, 2-1 Conference USA) its first victory in nine games over Tulane (14-4, 2-1). This was only the second victory ever by Saint Louis over a ranked team and its first since Jan. 1, 1999, when it defeated No. 23 Memphis.
Saint Louis had lost three of its last four games, Tulane had won six of its last seven.
Jana Haywood and Kirsti Holloway each scored 12 points for Saint Louis. Holloway's points came of 4 3-point field goals. Teana McKiver was the only Tulane player in double figures with 22 points.
Saint Louis led 48-41 with 6:45 remaining for its largest lead. Tulane went in front 56-54 but Amie Van Deurzen hit a short jumper at 3:06 to make it 56-56.
Saint Louis was 5-for-20 in the first 13 minutes before hitting four of its next seven shots, including two 3-pointers by Holloway to lead 23-20.
After two free throws by Britt Themann, Haywood hit a jumper for the Billikens, giving Saint Louis a 25-20 lead. Tulane scored the last five points of the half to lead 27-25.
Saint Louis finished shooting 41 percent while Tulane hit 47 percent. Tulane outrebounded Saint Louis 37-24. Tulane made 27 turnovers to the Billikens' 20.
