BOSTON, Mass. - - Teana McKiver had 23 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 22 Tulane to a 78-63 win over Boston University at Case Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Tulane, ranked 22nd in both the the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches' polls, improved to 12-2 with the victory. Boston fell to 7-4 overall.
The Green Wave lead 19-15 midway through the first half, but used a 13-1 burst to build a 16-point advantage. McKiver and Kaisha Lymon hit back-to-back lay-ups to start the run before Delacey Joseph hit a long three-pointer to give Tulane an 11-point lead with 8:46 left in the half and from there the Wave lead would never drop under double digits.
Kelly Nadeau kept the run going with a steal and an easy lay-up. McKiver added another lay-up before Boston hit a free throw to cut the Tulane margin to 30-16. However, Nadeau fed Goree for a driving lay-up and Tulane led 32-16 with 4:22 left after having held the Terriers without a field goal for over seven minutes. Boston trimmed the lead to 11, 32-21 with 3:33 left, but Tulane outscored the Terriers 15-7 the rest of the way to take a 47-26 lead into the lockerroom.
McKiver's 23 points came on 9-of-13 shooting and she just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. She also added two assists, two blocks and a steal. Britt Themann came off the bench to score 12 points, while Sarah Goree added 10 points and four assists without committing a turnover.
Nadeau, playing in front of nearly 150 family-members and friends who made the 30-minute drive from nearby Hudson, N.H., had a solid game with six points and seven assists, while recording new career highs with seven rebounds and six steals.
Boston tried to rally in the second half, cutting the lead to 14 points on four different occasions thanks to a flurry of three-pointers, but the Wave answered each time before claiming its eighth double-digit win of the season.
The Green Wave hit 47.6 percent of their shots (30-of-63) for the game, while holding the Terriers to just 33.9 percent shooting (21-of-62). In building its 21-point halftime advantage, Tulane was 19-of-34 from the floor in the first half (55.9 percent), while Boston was just 10-of-37 (27.0 percent).
Tulane returns to action on Saturday, when the Green Wave open the Conference USA season by playing host to rival Southern Miss. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Fogelman Arena.
