NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University baseball team will look to right their collective ship against a familiar foe when the Green Wave travels to Baton Rouge for a 6:30 p.m. showdown against the arch-rival Tigers of LSU Tuesday evening at Alex Box Stadium.
The Green Wave took four out of five contest against the Tigers last year, including a regular-season sweep and a 2-1 series win over LSU in last year's Super Regional to give Tulane its first trip to the College World Series. But if Tulane is to extend its winning streak against the team in Purple and Gold, the Green Wave will have to improve its play of a week ago when the home team committed seven errors and hit just .275.
Senior third baseman James Jurries continues to lead the Green Wave in most offensive categories with a .444 batting average, a .815 slugging percentage, four doubles, two triples, four home runs and 19 RBI. Sophomore middle infielder Turner Brumby is next on the squad with a.381 average, and sophomore first baseman/left-handed pitcher is close behind Jurries with three doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI.
Aubrey is the expected starter Tuesday night at LSU, and will bring his 1-0 record and 5.54 ERA with him to Baton Rouge. Tuesday will be the third time the Shreveport native will take the hill against the Tigers, but Aubrey has more than made his mark against LSU with his bat. In his first game against LSU, Aubrey went 4-for-6 with five RBI while hitting for the cycle and has a .435 batting average in five games against the Tigers.
LSU, meanwhile, comes into Tuesday's game on an emotional high after winning a three-game series against Long Beach State this weekend in Baton Rouge. The Tigers are hitting .287 as a team and are led by Wally Pontiff with a .375 batting average.
As a pitching staff, LSU has a 4.06 ERA and the Tigers will send freshman right-hander Clay Harris to the mound against the Green Wave. Harris has appeared in five games with one start, and ranks fourth on the team with a 4.09 ERA in 11.0 innings of work with nine strikeouts, one walk and a 1-0 record.
Tuesday's game against the Tigers is the first of two regular-season games Tulane will play against LSU as the Green Wave will host the squad from Baton Rouge on April 10 in the Louisiana Superdome.
