CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Tulane University baseball team clubbed four home runs and held an 11-1 lead over Conference USA foe Cincinnati, but will have to wait until tomorrow for the outcome to become official as rain forced the game to be postponed until Sunday at 10 a.m.
Tulane and Cincinnati will play the final three and a half innings tomorrow morning and will begin game three approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the game that began on Saturday.
The Green Wave wasted little time getting on the board as sophomore left fielder Bryan Stelmack launched his fourth home run in the games fourth at-bat to give Tulane a 2-0 lead in first inning, and sophomore third baseman hit his first round-tripper of the season to leadoff the second.
After scoreless third and fourth innings, junior centerfielder Jon Kaplan reached on a bunt single and senior second baseman James Jurries belted a no-doubter over the wall in center to put the Green Wave ahead 5-0. Stelmack doubled in the next at-bat and redshirt-freshman Gerald Clark traded places with him with an RBI-double one hitter later.
Cincinnati scored in the home half of the fifth when second baseman Nate Fish homered to left center, but Tulane came right back in the next frame. With two away, Kaplan singled before junior first baseman Aaron Feldman and Jurries walked to load the bases. From there, Stelmack hit a bases clearing double off the top of the wall in center and Clark hammered a mile-high shot to left that left the yard to give Tulane its 11-1 lead.
Senior southpaw Beau Richardson struck out six Bearcat batters and gave up just five hits before the inclement weather hit. He also picked off three runners at first base and the Green Wave turned a double play.
