
Giarratano Named To NCAA Baton Rouge All-Regional Team

BATON ROUGE, La. - After hitting .385 in Tulane's three postseason games the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional at Alex Box Stadium, Tulane sophomore third baseman Anthony Giarratano earned all-regional honors as voted on my the members of the local media.
For the tournament, Giarratano went 5-for-13 with an RBI and a stolen base. The honor is the second postseason distinction of the his career as Giarratano earned all-regional honors last season at the New Orleans Regional at Turchin Stadium.
A preseason All-Conference USA honoree, Giarratano battled through an injury-plagued 2002 season where he missed time with a knee injury and a bruised sternum in separate incidents. The native of Marlboro, N.J., came into the regional hitting .226 with eight doubles and two home runs, and raised his average to 12 points with hits performance at Alex Box.
Giarratano is expected to be one of 23 returning veterans in 2003, including second-team All-Conference USA outfielders Jon Kaplan and Aaron Feldman, along with second-team all-league relief pitcher Joey Charron.
The Green Wave completed the 2002 season 36-27 overall, including a 17-13 mark in conference play to finish fifth in the league standings. The berth into the postseason marked the 14th time the Green Wave qualified for the regionals, including a school-record fifth consecutive appearance.
