NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane hit 20 free throws in the second half, while holding Saint Louis to just 28.8 percent shooting for the game to post a 58-50 win over the Billikens at Fogelman Arena on Friday.

The Green Wave held Saint Louis scoreless for nearly six minutes in the second half to turn a two-point cushion into a 10-point advantage with just over two minutes remaining to seal the win. Tulane led 38-36 at the 8:26 mark before a lay-up and a free throw from Gwen Slaughter sparked a 7-0 burst. Saint Louis trimmed the lead to seven, but a free throw from Slaughter and a jumper from Joseph gave the Green Wave a 48-38 lead with 2:07 left. From there, Tulane hit 10 free throws to claim the 58-50 win.
"This was a hard-fought game by both teams," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton said. "We are still struggling with our turnovers, but we kept battling right until the end. Gwen Slaughter really came up with some big rebounds on both ends of the floor for us."
Slaughter posted her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds. She also had three assists and four blocked shots. Teana McKiver was the only other Wave player in double figures with 10 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Kelly Nadeau had five steals and six rebounds for the Wave.
Tulane had a 45-37 edge in rebounding and forced 22 Saint Louis turnovers. The Green Wave also posted nine blocked shots, marking the third straight game that Tulane has turned in at least nine rejections.
The Wave were just 16-of-44 from the field (36.4 percent), but held Saint Louis to just 28.8 percent shooting (19-of-66). Tulane also failed to hit a three-point shot for the first time this year. The Wave had entered the game ranked first in Conference USA in three-point field goal percentage.
Tulane will play host to league rival Memphis on Sunday. The Wave will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, featuring guests the Tulane University Women's Association and the Newcomb College Alumnae.
