
Women's Basketball To Participate In Bobcat Classic

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University women's basketball team returns to action over the weekend when the Green Wave travels to San Marcos, Texas, for the 15th Annual CenturyTel Bobcat Classic, hosted by Texas State University.
The Green Wave will battle Texas A&M on Friday, Nov. 26, at 5:30 p.m., and will close out tournament play vs. the host Bobcats on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m. The Bobcat Classic marks the second time in as many weekends that Tulane will play a pair of games away from The Crescent City before returning home on Wednesday, Dec. 1, against Louisiana-Monroe in the first of seven games at Fogelman Arena during the month of December.
Tulane enters the weekend 2-1 on the year after posting back-to-back wins over George Mason, 62-56 on Sunday in Fairfax, Va., and Jacksonville State, 54-51 on Tuesday night in Fogelman Arena. As a team, the Green Wave are averaging 58.3 points and 38.7 rebounds per game and are shooting 43.1 percent from the field while holding opponents to a .367 clip.
Junior post player Shelly Cayette and sophomore guard Jami Montagnino share the team lead in scoring with 8.7 points per game each, and junior guard D'Aundra Henry is close behind with an average of 8.3. Senior guard/forward Tymeka Moore paces the club with 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per outing, and Henry leads the squad with 5.3 assists per night.
Texas A&M comes into the Bobcat Classic 1-1 on the year after splitting a pair of games at the Miami Jam in Coral Gables, Fla. The Aggies dropped the opener to USF, 62-56, before bouncing back for a 68-53 decision over Bucknell in the consolation round.
As a team, Texas A&M is averaging 62.0 points and 42.5 rebounds per outing while connecting on 34.8 percent of its shots from the field. Tamea Scales paces the Aggies with 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per outing. Ashley Bolden is second on the club with 10.5 points per game, and Erica Roy follows Scales in rebounding with 6.5 caroms per outing.
Texas State, meanwhile, enters the weekend 0-2 on the year after dropping a 93-52 contest at Oral Roberts on Friday and finding itself on the wrong end of a 76-57 score at Oklahoma on Sunday. As a team, the Bobcats average 54.5 points and 32.5 rebounds per night, and connect on 36.3 percent of its shots on 45-of-124 shooting.
Tori Talbert leads the Bobcats with 21.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Tamara Thompson is second on the squad with 9.0 points per night, and Joyce Ekworomadu is one spot off the lead in rebounds with an average of 6.5.
Friday's matchup with Texas A&M marks the seventh meeting between the two schools on the hardwood, and the Green Wave holds a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series. In fact, the Green Wave have won the last three meetings between the two clubs, winning 88-73 on Dec. 31, 1993 and 66-61 on Dec. 8, 1998 in Fogelman Arena, and claiming a 91-74 victory on Dec. 8, 1999 in College Station, Texas. Tulane and Texas State, meanwhile, will be playing each other for the first time on Saturday afternoon.
