NEW ORLEANS, La. - This week was one of ups and downs. First, we avenged our first loss to UNO with a 5-0 win on Tuesday night. Then, we ended Arizona State's home winning streak with a 5-3 win on Friday night. However, we couldn't put any timely hitting together on either Saturday or Sunday, and as a result, we dropped the last two games of the series.
Right now, we're on the airplane en route to New Orleans. It's late and we're all tired, but at the same time, we can't wait to get back on the field to take out our aggression on the Trojans of Southern Cal. I think our first road experience was a valuable learning experience. If nothing more, we got some of the road kinks out before we travel to East Carolina next weekend to open up conference play.
Phoenix was definitely a different city that any one I've ever been to. It was really hot and devoid of any type of shade. However, there was no humidity so it didn't really feel all that hot, which is very different from New Orleans. What is hot, though, is the Mexican food. I can't remember the name of this restaurant we went to, specifically, but it had to be the hottest food I have ever had. A couple of us even got to see some spring training baseball during the day on Friday. We wanted to go see Jake Gautreau play at the Padres camp, but we ended up going to the Angels/Royals game because of time constraints.
This week is definitely going to be a busy one. We play USC on Tuesday and Wednesday night before flying out on Thursday to East Carolina. Playing East Carolina on the road isn't the easiest way to start conference play, but it's a great opportunity to get back some momentum on our way to the conference title. One thing that we need to do to be able to host is win on the road. We need to some way figure out how to play with the same mindset and intensity on the road as we do at home. When we start to figure out how to do that, we're going to be a very dangerous ball team. We have to figure it out quickly, though, as start playing like we all know how.
Well I've got to head out for now. I think we're about to start our decent so I have to turn the computer off. There's nothing worse than a plane ride after a loss. Hopefully, next week, it'll be a much more pleasant environment coming back from East Carolina. I'll see you all at Turchin on Tuesday and Wednesday night at 6:30. We're going to turn this thing around. Have a great week.
Roll Wave,
