NEW ORLEANS, La. - Hello Wave fans. I apologize for my week and a half hiatus but it's been very busy around here. First things first. Our trip to Houston didn't turn out as we all hoped for. After dropping two one-run ballgames on Thursday and Friday night, we bounced back to take the Saturday game by a score of 5-4. With that win, we clinched second place in the C-USA final regular season standings, and were seeded second in the C-USA Tournament. Our good fortune ended there, however, and we lost the first two games of the tournament to a hot UAB team and a USM team that had revenge on its mind. After that, we jumped on a bus back to New Orleans three days earlier than expected with the future of our season in the balance.
However, we got some help from some other teams in the C-USA Tournament and the right teams got knocked off to give us an opportunity to turn our season back in the right direction. The two days of practice on Saturday and Sunday were miserable, not only because we were unsure of whether or not we would make a regional but because we also knew that we had the talent to still be playing in Houston. That's all behind us now, though, because we sidestepped our usual trip 80 miles up the river, and landed a three-seed in the NCAA Oxford Regional. All the guys are really excited about the change of scenery from our usual regional site and are in anxious to play in a regional that we feel we can do some serious damage at.
We open up the Oxford Regional by matching up against the University of Washington Huskies. Man, I don't think anyone expected to be playing those guys this season. That's the exciting thing about the regionals, though. You play teams that you know nothing about. As it turns out, though, I played on the same summer team with Washington's catcher and first baseman this summer. So it'll be a nice reunion; after we beat them that is.
We're planning on practicing tomorrow afternoon before making the drive up to Oxford to practice up there on Thursday. I hope all of you can make the trip up there. I remember when I visited Ole Miss coming out of high school. They have a beautiful field settled down into a ravine. It's a great place to watch a game, and play in one, of course. I'm really excited about our situation. So, like I said, I hope to have as many fans as we can get out there at 3 p.m. on Friday to play the Huskies. I don't know how many of their fans will be making the trip from Washington, but I do know that we won't have 7,000 newly baptized Huskies fans rooting against us like we would get up in Baton Rouge.
Anyways, see you guys up in Mississippi. Have a good one.
Roll Wave,
Tommy
