TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
Thoughts on the game
"What makes a good team good is being able to hit in the clutch. That's it. We just haven't had enough clutch hits. You put too much pressure on your pitchers when you do that, but this is not one game now. It's been a pattern now where you look and you say `okay, we've got to make some adjustments and its got to be adjustments that are going to make a difference get you back to the kind of program our fans are used to.' It's not going to happen overnight, and it's not one person. We're going to have to get a lot better."
On Daniel Latham getting hit late
"The bottom line is we put so much pressure on Daniel early in the season to win ballgames because if we don't win them, we don't have a chance to get to the post season. We haven't done anything offenseively to help him late in the season. Last year we did, and it took pressure off him. If you put your ballclub in a position every day where it's a one-run ballgame and low-scoring, it's hard on a pitching staff to overcome that. As good as Latham is, you can't put him out there every day in that situation, but we've done that because we have not been a club that has been a clutch-hitting team."
On what the loss does to the team
"This is a low ebb for me and the program. This is unacceptable for anyone who is associated with the program, including myself, and it starts with me. I'm not going to let this continue."
On what it takes to build confidence at the plate
"Confidence comes from doing it. We had a great practice on Tuesday, we had a really good workout yesterday, but at the end of the day, you've got to knock people in when it counts. If you don't do that, then after a while, it starts to set in. We haven't done that in a long time."
SENIOR CATCHER Ty Wallace
On the Cougars' 2-1 win over the Green Wave
"We still have two more games to get something going. We just didn't stretch the lead today, obviously. One run isn't going to get it done.
SENIOR FIRST BASEMAN Tim Guidry
On how much this loss hurts
"I've been in bigger situations where (the loss) hurt more, but this is a big one. I don't know what to say. We just have to keep on playing hard and try to win some games here at the end of the season."
On not being able to build momentum for the C-USA Tournament following today's loss
"We definitely have to take the next two games and hopefully we can take that momentum (into next week). We just have to take it day by day."
CHICAGO STATE INTERIM HEAD COACH HUSAIN MAHMOUD
On the Cougars' 2-1 win over the Green Wave
"I just told them to play baseball. The best game to win is a one-run game. That's the best win in baseball. We've had a coaching change and have had a lot of ups and downs, but we're going to put it together and we're going to get things rolling around. We played the toughest schedule in the nation, and hopefully, we can take the momentum of the progress we made this season into next year."
On 9-hole hitter Chris Goya posting the game-tying hit in the eighth
"He's hitting .125 because he's been hurt all year. He hasn't had that many opportunities and he hasn't had that many at-bats. There was no panic whatsoever. If he hadn't been hurt, he would have scored the run (in the eighth)."
