TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
On the Green Wave's performance in Sunday's double-header
"I was proud of the way our team bounced back after another emotional loss. In the last two weeks, we've had a lot of emotional losses in some close games. We scored four runs in 14 innings with the wind blowing out. You'd like to see us put more runs on the board because that puts a lot of pressure on your pitching staff. We did it in game one and we did it in game two. Sean Morgan gave us a lift there, and Aaron Loup pitched really, really well."
On the pitching performance of rookie southpaw Aaron Loup during the week
"He's been the bright spot of the week for us. He pitched very well on Tuesday night in relief and came back today to give us a quality start. That was a bright spot for the week."
On using Sean Morgan to close things out in Sunday's nightcap
"I wanted Sean to throw to the lefty to open the (seventh) inning. Once he got the lefty, it was like `Okay, let's give him a shot' because Sean's slider was good today. He got the ground ball (which resulted in an error), got a fly ball to left and Brad made a great play over there at third to end the game. We were just hitter by hitter on whether to bring Daniel in or not. But the game plan going in was if we didn't need to use Daniel and give him a full week's rest, we'd like to do that. We've rode him a little more then we wanted to because we've been in so many close games late."
On the upcoming weekend at Rice
"We've struggled against the lower half of the league. I don't want to show anybody up, but we're going to play `Big Boy Baseball' when we go to Houston. We're going to have to play great baseball. We're going to have to play great. We're going to take two days off for exams and then try and work on Wednesday late in the day."
On the state of the team with two weeks left in the regular season
"I think I have a tired club out there right now. We're better then our record shows, but that falls on me. I think the best thing we can do in the thick of exams is to catch our breath for two days, get our lifts and try to have a solid practice on Wednesday. We've had some strong practices. We have to be as healthy and as strong as we can be to basically play the same Rice team we beat in the Super Regional two years ago."
SENIOR FIRST BASEMAN Tim Guidry
On snapping a six-game losing streak with a 2-1 series finale victory over UAB
"It felt great. After losing that first game - that was a real heart-breaker - it's tough to be able to pick yourself up and get ready to play. We had a couple of great pitching performances from Loup and Morgan. I don't think Morgan's relieved in a while, but he did a great job out of the pen."
On getting the game-winning RBI in the fourth inning
"We only scored four runs all day, and we weren't doing a whole lot on offense. We just had to take advantages of the chances we had because we didn't have a whole lot of them today."
JUNIOR SHORTSTOP Cat Everett
On getting the win in game two of Sunday's double-header
"It's like a giant gorilla is off of my back. It comes at a pretty desperate moment, so I guess it's one of the best wins we'vehad all year - especially being a tight game. In a doubleheader, our guys were still playing hard. Guys were running ground balls out down the line. It was a good effort."
On the Green Wave's play over the last three weeks
"I've never seen so many things go wrong for us. It's not all bad luck, but there was a lot of bad luck in there. Brad and Warren hit the ball hard with runners in scoring position but just right at people. That's baseball. All we need is a foot in the door. We're still a dangerous team. We're still capable of doing everything we want to do late in the season."
