
Tulane Women's Basketball Stunned By Memphis, 74-66

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane allowed its opponent to shoot over 50 percent from the field for the third-straight game as the Memphis Tigers dropped the Green Wave women's basketball team 74-66 Friday night at Fogelman Arena. Alendra Brown led Tulane with 14 points.
Despite the defensive woes for the Wave, Tulane had a chance at the end, down two with the ball and 57 seconds remaining. But the Tigers stole the inbounds and connected on four-of-four in the final minute from the free throw line. Tulane falls to 11-6 overall with the loss, 1-3 in Conference USA.
Freshman Tiffany Aidoo scored 11 points and added three assists and four rebounds. Junior point guard Ashley Langford added 11 with seven assists. Sophomore guard Chassity Brown was the fourth member of the Wave in double-figure scoring with 10 points to go with three steals.
Four members of Memphis (5-12 overall, 1-3 in Conference USA) reached double-figures, led by a game-high 16 points from LaToya Bullard. Jessica Hall chipped in 13 points, while Jessica Jackson and Alex Winchell each had 10.
The Tigers shot 53.7 percent from the field for the game.
Tulane opened up an early 14-11 lead, as Megan Valicevic found Dominique Philpots cutting to the hoop via the backdoor for an easy lay-up. But the Tigers answered with a three-pointer from LaToya Bullard.
Memphis went to a full-court press and the Wave found themselves down 32-24. Lindsey connected on a jumper, but the Tigers led 39-33 at intermission. The Tigers connected at a 58.6 percent clip in the first half, as Bullard hit on 7-of-8 from the field for a game-high 16 points. Lindsey scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds in the first half.
In the second half, Alex Winchell canned a three-pointer for a 49-40 lead, but Megan Valicevic answered with a three-point play the old fashioned way. Alendra Brown trimmed the margin to three from the free throw line, 49-46, with 12:40 to go. But the Tigers used a 7-2 run to put the Wave back on their heels, 60-50.
Langford hit a three with the shot clock expiring, and Chassity Brown scored in transition, as Tulane pulled to within five. But Jessica Hall connected on a three from the wing to restore an eight-point Memphis lead with 3:36 to go.
Chassity Brown and Alendra Brown scored back-to-back buckets, as the Wave trailed by five. Following a steal from Valicevic, Chassity Brown drained a three from the top of the key.
The Wave trailed 68-66 and forced a turnover, but the Tigers stole the inbounds and hit a pair of free throws. The Tigers held the Green Wave on their next possession and closed out the 74-66 win with another pair of free throws.
The Green Wave are back in action on Sunday against UAB at 2 p.m. CT.
