NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's basketball team looks for its sixth-straight win on Saturday as the Green Wave take on Alabama State in the first round of the 2008 Tulane DoubleTree Classic. The Green Wave and Hornets meet at 1 p.m. at Fogelman Arena, with Providence versus Southeast Missouri State to follow. The Green Wave is coming off a 108-66 shellacking of Nicholls State in which Tulane set school records for three-pointers and field goals. Indira Kaljo drained five of Tulane's 14 three-pointers.
The Green Wave, 6-3 on the season, will host the DoubleTree Classic for the 13th time. Tulane has won the tourney nine times. Providence is making its second appearance in the tournament, after winning the consolation game in 1999.
Alabama State enters the tournament at 1-6 overall. The Providence Friars are 5-4 on the season, but have won three in a row. Southeast Missouri State enters the DoubleTree at 4-5 overall following a 64-47 loss to C-USA foe Southern Miss on Dec. 13.
Tulane is averaging 78 points per game in the five-game win streak, after averaging 56 points per contest in the Green Wave's first four games.
Against Nicholls State, 10 individual season-highs were set in points, rebounds or assists, and five individual career-highs were set in those categories. Tulane shot a season-best .643 from the field with a school record 45 field goals. The .643 field goal percentage was the fourth-best in a game in school history, and the 108 points was the fourth highest point total in program history.
The winners of Saturday's game play in the second game on Sunday for the tournament title, with the consolation game starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

- Tulane DoubleTree Classic
Tulane is 20-4 all-time in the DoubleTree Classic, winning nine of the 12 events. Providence is now the second team with two appearances in the DoubleTree Classic, joining UNC Greensboro. The Friars finished second in the 1999 tournament.
- Tulane vs the Field
Tulane is 1-0 all-time vs Alabama State (70-57, 12/5/2002). Tulane is 1-0 all-time vs Providence (W, 81-57, 12/27/1999 in the DoubleTree Classic). Tulane and Southeast Missouri State have never met.
- Offense Gets Going
After a three-game stretch in which Tulane averaged 49.3 PPG (all losses), Tulane has scored an average of 77.8 PPG in the last five games (all wins).
- Offense Explodes for 108 vs Nicholls
Tulane's 108 points vs Nicholls State was the fourth-highest point total in school history, and the Green Wave's first 100-point game since a 109-39 win over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in San Juan in November of 2001.
- Three's Up!
Tulane hit a school record 14 three-pointers in the win over Nicholls State. Tulane nailed 14 of 23 attempts to shatter the old record of 11 (set three times). Megan Valicevic (5-6) and Indira Kaljo (5-7) led the way, with Chassity Brown (2-6), Tiffany Aidoo (1-1) and Ashley Langford (1-2) adding triples. Valicevic and Kaljo posted the top two three-point shooting nights of the season in C-USA.
- Tulane Sets Top Scoring Half... Twice
Tulane's 53 point first half against Nicholls was its highest scoring half of the season, until scoring 55 points in the second half. The previous best was 49 vs Louisiana-Lafayette Nov. 26.
- Two Threes for #33
Number 33 Indira Kaljo (2.22 3PT per game) has hit two or more three-pointers in six games this season and ranks second in C-USA in 3PT% at .526 (20-of-38). Her trio of three's iced the win over Indiana State, and she nailed 5-of-7 at Nicholls for 21 points, her Tulane high. It was two points shy of her career best, which she accomplished four times at Ventura College.
- Megan Makes `Em All
Megan Valicevic sprung for a career-high 21 points (8-11 FG) including 5-of-6 from three-point land at Nicholls State. She ranks 11th in C-USA in field goal percentage at .491, but 20 of her attempts are from three-point range (8-20, .400). Inside the arc, she is shooting 20-of-37 (.541). She also leads C-USA in free throw percentage at .871 (27-31).
- Lindsey's Hot Hand
In her last five games, Brittany Lindsey has connected on 45-of-81 attempts (.556), for 14.7 points per game.
- Everyone's Hot Hand
Brett Benzio now leads Tulane with a .536 FG%, while Brittany Lindsey is just behind at .530. Benzio ranks sixth in C-USA, while Lindsey is seventh. Megan Valicevic ranks 11th in C-USA at .491.
- Field Goals' Up and Good!
Tulane's .643 field goal percentage against Nicholls State was its fourth-highest in program history.
- Out Shoot `Em
Tulane is 15-0 dating back to last season when connecting at a higher field goal percentage than its opponent, 5-0 this year, and just 6-17 when posting a lower one (1-0 when same).
- Get to the Line
In Tulane's win over Illinois State, the Wave got to the free throw line 30 times. Tulane is 5-0 when attempting 17 or more free throws, and 1-3 when attempting less.
- Getting Defensive
In eight of Tulane's nine games, the Wave have held opponents to 66 points or less, including a season-best defensive game of 48 against Jackson State.
- Deuce's Dimes
Ashley Langford recorded her 10th career game with double-digit assists, handing out 10 in Tulane's win over Nicholls State. She is now third on the Conference USA all-time assist list with 580. In her last six games, Langford has doled out 36 assists.
