
Baseball's Bruno Named CGL Player of the Year

Falls Church, Va.-Tulane baseball's Jamie Bruno finished his summer strong, as the sophomore was named Player of the Year of the Clark Griffith League at the end of the regular season. Bruno, a first baseman for the Vienna Senators finished the regular season leading the league in RBI with 42 while also atop the home run leader board with nine long balls.
"I got a lot of at-bats against quality pitching which will definitely help me in my upcoming season at Tulane," Bruno said. "It was a great learning experience for me and I feel like I had a really productive summer."
The CGL is designated as a Premier League by the National Baseball Congress and competes against other top Summer Leagues in the NBC World Series located in Wichita, Kan. The CGL is a charter member of the AAABA and has won 10 national championships, including five of the last ten. Entering the 2009 season, more than 50 league alumni have reached the major leagues, including active players Mark Teixeira (New York Yankees), Jon Papelbon (Boston Red Sox) and Manny Burriss (San Francisco Giants), while more than 400 other players have gone on to play in the minor leagues.
