Coach Momic's Comments Entering The SMU, Tulsa Weekend
Oct 30, 2014 | Women's Volleyball
On his team's progress entering the second half of conference play
"I think we've shown signs of improvement since the start of conference play. Obviously, we did not get as many wins as we wanted - especially on the road - but we saw some improvement just based on playing together longer. Some of the players have never played [at the college level] before and they got some experience just being on the court and learning how to play. They're working hard in practice every day and they're getting much better than they think. For us, it's a matter of believing in ourselves and understanding how good we can be. We need to just keep improving a little bit at each position and a little bit in every skill. It's important that they understand the real potential that they have. Improvement has definitely been made. We have to figure out how play with a belief in ourselves. Then, it will all become obvious. We have to turn that page, start winning and believe in ourselves that we can win."
On if he feels the Green Wave can make a run over the final 10 matches of 2014
"That's the goal. We played some really good matches against the toughest teams in the conference and there were some matches where we were not pleased at all with how we played. We're trying to learn from those. We know we can play well against anybody. It's just a matter of being consistent, improving and being aware that if we play well we can win matches. That's the biggest thing now. We have to make that push to prove to ourselves first that we need to play at a certain level to start winning."
On how practice has gone this week
"They have been good. We had the tough road trip at South Florida and UCF. The girls came back, went back to their usual routine with strength and conditioning and have been doing a good job in practices - just like they've done this whole year. It's just a matter of improving our skill and believing in ourselves to win. I don't think the effort was an issue at all. That's been the same this week, too."
