
Volleyball To Play Weekend Matches At Cincinnati, Memphis

Tulane lost both head-to-head matches against both Memphis and Cincinnati in Devlin Fieldhouse earlier in the year as the Green Wave fell in straight sets to the Tigers on Sept. 26 before falling in five to the Bearcats two days later. "Cincinnati had a really good match against us the first time around, and it was a similar situation against Memphis," Tulane head coach Sinisa Momic said. We're just trying to improve how we perform against them. Our goal is to improve on the things we do on our side. We understand that this is going to be a tough road trip and we just have to make sure that we improve what we can do on our side of the net."
Tulane heads to Ohio 5-21 on the year and 3-11 in American action. As a team, the Green Wave are averaging 10.96 kills, 10.32 assists, 0.89 service aces, 14.34 digs and 2.17 blocks per set while hitting .149 on the strength of 1,019 kills and 550 errors on 3,158 total attacks.
Sophomore right-side hitter Tea Juric leads the team with 3.06 kills per set while freshman outside hitter Sarah Ray is close behind with a 3.05 average. Sophomores Ally Frank and Lauren Etta have shared time at the setter position throughout the season and sport respective averages of 8.42 and 7.21 assists per set and senior defensive specialist Grace Weaver paces the squad with 19 aces. On the defensive end, sophomore libero Miah Diirell leads Tulane with 4.04 digs per set and sophomore middle blocker headlines the front-line unit with 1.04 blocks per contest.
Cincinnati enters Friday's contest - which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. (CST) - 13-11 overall, 5-7 in American play and aiming to put an end to a five-match losing streak dating back to a straight-sets home defeat to UCF on Oc. 19. As a team, the Bearcats are averaging 12.88 kills, 12.00 assists, 0.98 service aces, 15.37 digs and 2.04 blocks per set while hitting .213 courtesy of 1,198 kills and 499 errors in 3,288 swings.
Emma Roberson leads the Bearcats with 3.57 kills per set with Morgan Allred, Ciara Hill and Me'Asha Nicolson rounding out four players with at least a 2.00 kills average with marks of 2.64, 2.60 and 2.20, respectively. Caitlin Ogletree and Madi Long share setting duties and hold respective averages of 8.83 and 5.79 assists per set, and Ogletree paces the squad with 19 aces. Jamie Netisingha leads Cincinnati with 4.54 digs per set and Nicholson paces the defense with 94 blocks.
Memphis, who will take on Houston on Friday, enter the weekend 19-9 on the year, 9-5 in conference action and coming off back-to-back road losses to SMU and Tulsa. As a team, the Tigers are averaging 13.10 kills, 12.39 assists, 1.19 service aces, 17.59 digs and 2.20 blocks per set while connecting at a .204 clip offensively with 1,428 kills and 592 errrors in 4,090 total attempts.
Lauren Wright leads a balanced offensive attack with 2.92 kills per set followed by Kate Gibson at 2.75, Oluchi Agomuo at 2.49, Catlin Lilly at 2.23 and Alexis Wesley at 2.00. Veronica Zimmerman paces the squad with 10.44 assists per set and the duo of Lilly and Aleksandra Petronijevic share team-high ace honors with 24 apiece. Petronijevic has a team-best 5.54 digs per set and Wesley paces the defense 1.12 blocks per contest.
Following the road swing to Ohio and Tennessee, the Green Wave return to action on Friday, Nov. 21, when they play host to UCF at 7 p.m. in Devlin Fieldhouse before closing out the home portion of the 2014 campaign on Sunday, Nov. 23, against Temple. Prior to the Temple match, Tulane will honors its senior class of Weaver and middle blocker Anna Wruck with a special ceremony.
