Baseball to Play Rice, Host UNO in Fall Exhibitions
Sep 8, 2014 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's baseball program will not have to wait until February to see how they stack up against outside competition, as head coach David Pierce announced Monday that his team will play Rice and UNO in fall exhibitions on Oct. 11 and Oct. 18, respectively.
The Green Wave will travel to Houston to play former Conference USA foe Rice on Oct. 11 at Reckling Park before returning home to host the Privateers at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Oct. 18. Both games are tentatively set to begin at noon, and both contests will be open to the public.
"We are excited to have a chance to travel to Rice and host UNO in fall exhibition games," stated Pierce. "These games will really tell us a lot about our team in game situations. We are looking forward to it."
While the games will not count towards the 2015 win-loss record, they will count towards the total number of games Tulane can play during the upcoming season per NCAA rules, meaning the Green Wave will only be able to play 54 games during the 2015 campaign.
Fall exhibitions are nothing new to Pierce's regime, as he routinely tested his student-athletes' skills against outside competition in the fall during his three-year stint as head coach of Sam Houston State. Prior to that, Pierce was a part of the Rice program, serving as an assistant coach for nine years where the program regularly played fall exhibition games.
