Oct 28, 2016 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS – With five regular-season meets in the books, the men and women of Tulane cross country now look to the American Athletic Conference Championships in West Chester Township, Ohio to open up the postseason. The meet, hosted by the University of Cincinnati, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Voice of America Metropark.
"We're all very excited that the postseason is here," director of track and field and cross country Eric Peterson said. "Throughout this season, we've had strong leadership from the front of both teams with Emmanuel Rotich and Moses Aloiloi on the men's side and Lauren Bartels and Emma Newton for the women. In order for us to be successful as a team and as a program at this championship, we really need our third, fourth and fifth runners to step up. If we can do that, our results are going to be good."
The championships start with the women's 6K race at 9:00 a.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 9:50 a.m. The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 10:40 a.m. Both races will be streamed live on the American Digital Network.
On the women's side, Tulane is ranked No. 9 in the South Central Region, with a title finish at the AllState Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival earlier in the season. Junior Emma Newton has been the leader for the Green Wave women, winning the LSU Cross Country Invitational and finishing 15th in the Stanford Cross Country Invitational. Newton finished 17th in last year's championships, and junior Lauren Bartels finished in 26th place. Tulane will run alongside four other teams ranked in the USTFCCCA National and Regional rankings.
The Tulane men head to Ohio led by sophomore Emmanuel Rotich, who has finished in the top two of every race this season and claimed American Athletic Conference Male Runner of the Week honors on four out of five possible occasions. Junior Moses Aloiloi will also lead the Green Wave men. Aloiloi finished 10th in last year's championships.
