Nov 6, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – Following a home victory over UConn on Friday night, the Tulane volleyball team was looking for its first weekend sweep since taking back-to-back decisions in Florida last month. After dropping a close set one to Temple on Sunday afternoon, the Green Wave were unable to muster a comeback and fell in three straight games to the Owls. With the loss, Tulane moved to 14-12 on the year and 6-8 in American Athletic Conference play.
QUOTE
"We played well in the first set, and right at the very end we broke down and gave them the win. If we win the first set, I think things are a little different. I'm not proud of the way we responded in sets two and three. That was a tough match against a good Temple team. We have to make a quick turnaround with a Wednesday match, and I know the ladies want to make up for today's loss."
--Tulane head coach Jim Barnes
HOW IT WAS WON
Temple would score the first point of the day, but the majority of set one played out in Tulane's favor, as the Green Wave took an 8-6 lead on back-to-back service aces from junior setter Justine Bowers. Tulane would hold the lead for most of the set but fell late in an extra-point battle. Following the close 26-24 loss, Tulane was unable to find its footing in the second set, falling 25-11 after being outhit .722 to .222 by the Owls. Facing a 0-2 deficit, the Green Wave struck first in set three, but the Owls were quick to respond and closed out the afternoon with a 25-11 victory.
