Last Time Out:
Melvin Frazier scored a game-high 21 points, but Tulane went cold from the field in the second half of a 70-63 home loss to McNeese State on Monday night. Frazier made a career-high nine free throws, grabbed seven rebounds and led all players with three steals, while Ryan Smith contributed 14 points and matched a career-high with four blocks. Despite shooting 50 percent or better in the second half in its previous four games, the Green Wave shot just 7-for-23 (.304) overall in the second half. Stephen Ugochukwu posted a double-double comprising 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead McNeese State (3-7), while Jarren Greenwood added 14 points. Howard Thomas chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Â
The Opponent:
Texas State (6-5) enters Friday's contest coming off an 87-37 home win over Howard Payne University on Tuesday night, but the Bobcats own an 0-4 record in road games this season. The Bobcats share one common opponent with the Green Wave, as both teams have hosted McNeese State this season. Texas State earned an 80-68 victory over the Cowboys.
Â
The Series:
Friday's matchup marks just the second time the Green Wave and Bobcats have met and the first since Nov. 29, 2013 when the teams met at the Cude UCD Classic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Tulane's Ryan Smith and Cameron Reynolds, as well as Texas State's Kavin Gilder-Tidbury are the only players in tonight's game who competed in the initial matchup three years ago. The Bobcats won the lone meeting, 70-52, despite the Green Wave getting a combined 35 points from Louis Dabney and Jay Hook. Dabney led all scorers with 19 points, while Hook added 16 and Jonathan Stark chipped in 12.
