Â
STARTING FIVE
- Tulane is coming into Friday's game after a narrow loss at Southern Miss on Tuesday in the Battle for I-59. The teams were all tied up at 55-55 in the fourth quarter – with Tulane fighting back from 13 points down to get the tie – but the Lady Eagles scored the next 9 points to pull away for the win.
- Kolby Morgan was Tulane's leading scorer for the third consecutive game, putting up 17 points. Tene Thompson nearly had a double-double in the contest, recording a season-best 12 points and seven rebounds.
- Friday will be Tulane's first game at home this season. The last time the Green Wave had to wait until Game 4 for their first home contest was the 2002-03 season.
- Tulane ended the 2016-17 season with an 18-15 record and reached the third round of the Women's NIT, tying a program record for advancement in that tournament. Tulane finished last year ranking No. 74 in the nation in RPI, and the team reached the national postseason for the eighth straight year.
- In the American Athletic Conference preseason poll, Tulane was picked to finish sixth in the league. Morgan was named Preseason All-Conference Second Team after earning that same honor from the league in the 2016-17 postseason.
SERIES HISTORY – VANDERBILT
- Last season's meeting between Tulane and Vanderbilt in Nashville was the teams' first ever meeting.
- On that December day, the Commodores came away with a 74-63 home victory. Kolby Morgan was Tulane's leading scorer in that game with 34 points, a number that was the second-best total in her Green Wave career.
- Harlyn Wyatt had a team-high 10 rebounds, and then-senior Leslie Vorpahl had 12 assists last year. Vandy had five double-figure scorers in the win.
SCOUTING THE COMMODORES
- The Commodores, who play in the Southeastern Conference, dropped to 0-2 with a loss at Central Michigan on Tuesday night. Vanderbilt also lost to Middle Tennessee State to begin the season in Nashville.
- Friday's game will be Vanderbilt's second straight game on the road.
- Vanderbilt has three scorers averaging double figures through three games, with Rachel Bell and her 12.0 points per game leading the way. Christa Reed (10.5 ppg) and Chelsie Hall (10.0 ppg) are also in double-figure scoring.
- Vanderbilt is scoring an average of 64.5 points per game so far this year and has allowed 78.5 points per game including 92 from Central Michigan on Tuesday. The Commodores were 14-16 last season and missed the national postseason.
FIRST HOME GAME
Tulane will be playing at home for the first time all year in its fourth game of the season. This marks the first time Tulane has waited until Game 4 to compete at Fogelman in Devlin since the 2002-03 season. Back then, the Green Wave played road games at James Madison, Oregon State and Portland before returning to New Orleans and defeating Alabama State.
Â
HOME SWEET HOME
With a 12-5 record at Fogelman in Devlin in 2016-17, the Green Wave posted their ninth consecutive season with 10 or more victories on their home floor. Tulane now has 398 wins all-time at their home arena, two wins away from 400.
Â
THOMPSON'S BIG NIGHT
Junior Tene Thompson had her best game of the young season on Tuesday at Ole Miss, scoring 12 points and adding a team-high seven rebounds. Thompson also had a big three blocks and two steals, leading Tulane in steals. Thompson was very accurate from the field, making three of her four attempts including a 3-pointer. She also scored 5 points at the free-throw line.
ANDERSON'S FIRST POINTS
Freshman Kaila Anderson split time at the point guard position on Tuesday and played a strong 27 minutes for the Green Wave. During her time on the court, she scored the first 8 points of her career, knocking down two 3-pointers and one more 2-point field goal. Anderson also managed four assists on the night.
