NEW ORLEANS – Sunday marks another road trip for the Tulane women's basketball team, this time in North Carolina as the Green Wave will take on North Carolina State at 1 p.m. central.
Sunday will be the teams' fourth meeting in the last six seasons with Tulane holding a 2-1 edge in the three previous matchups.
Sunday's game against the Atlantic Coast Conference foe will air live on the ACC Network Extra, accessible through ESPN3. On the radio in New Orleans, fans can tune in to WRBH 88.3 FM with Gus Kattengell on the call.
STARTING FIVE
1.   Tulane improved its record this year to 4-3 after a Wednesday-night road victory over McNeese State. Tulane knocked down nine free throws in the final 65 seconds of the game – and had a season-high 25 free throws in the game – to hold off a late McNeese State rally.
2.   Tene Thompson had the best scoring game of her career against the Cowgirls including nine made free throws. Besides her 15 points, the junior also had a team-high three steals and added six rebounds.
3.   Kolby Morgan – who was placed on the AAC Honor Roll this week – continued her blistering scoring pace by putting up 27 against the Cowgirls on Wednesday. Morgan has scored at least 17 points in every game this season and has scored 20 points four times.
4.   Morgan is currently the fifth highest-scoring active player in women's college basketball. She is 13th nationally in points per game with 22.7.
5.   Wednesday will be Tulane's seventh game away from home out of eight on the season. Tulane opens the year with seven of its first eight games on the road before playing five straight at home.
SERIES HISTORY – NORTH CAROLINA STATE
•   Tulane and NC State have squared off three times in their history with the Green Wave holding a 2-1 lifetime edge.
•   The teams met in 2013 with the Wolfpack claiming a win, but Tualne won in 2014 and 2016, both at home.
•   Last year at Fogelman in Devlin, Kolby Morgan had 27 points while Leslie Vorpahl had 15 in the Tulane victory. Tulane was down by 13 points in the second half before coming back and winning 63-58.
Â
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
•   The Wolfpack, based in Raleigh, N.C., are 6-2 on the season. The team started out 6-0 before dropping their last two games vs. South Dakota State in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and at Rutgers on Thursday night. Their six wins have come against Jacksonville, Davidson, UNC Asheville, South Alabama, Old Dominion and Alabama.
•   NC State is receiving 33 votes in this week's Coaches Poll, putting them as the second team in the receiving votes category.
•   The Wolfpack's leading scorer is Chelsea Nelson, averaged 15.0 points per game. Akela Maize (11.9 ppg) and Kiara Leslie (10.4) are also averaging double-figure scoring.
•   Kaila Ealey and Leslie are both averaging 6.6 rebounds per game to top the team, and Ealey is the team's leading passer with 5.3 assists per game.
•   Last season, NC State was 23-9 including a 12-4 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Wolfpack lost in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals but advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where their season ended at No. 14 Texas.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Green Wave's game at North Carolina State will be their seventh road game of the season. Seven of the Green Wave's first eight games of the year are being played on the road before five consecutive home games in December. As of Thursday morning, Tulane is one of just 51 teams in the nation to have played one or zero home games.
TENE'S BIG NIGHT
Tene Thompson had the best scoring game of her career against the Cowgirls including nine made free throws. Thompson bested her previous career high of 14 points with 15 against McNeese. The junior also had a team-high three steals and added six rebounds.
MORGAN CONTINUES TO SCORE
Kolby Morgan continues to find twine in every game this year. The senior scored 27 points against McNeese State on Wednesday, marking the fourth time this year she has broken 20 points. Morgan's season low in points is 17.
COMING UP BIG AT THE LINE
Tulane owes a large portion of its victory on Wednesday to its shooting at the free throw line. With McNeese making things close in the decisive moments, Tulane sank nine free throws in the last 65 seconds to hold on to their lead. As a team, Tulane hit 25 free throws in the game, nearly doubling its previous season high of 13 against Iowa State.
FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES
For the first time all season, the Green Wave had four players score in double figures on Wednesday night. Kolby Morgan had 27 points, Tene Thompson had 15, Meredith Schulte scored 12 and Harlyn Wyatt had a season-high 10. Before Wednesday, Tulane last had four double-digit scorers on March 19, 2017 vs. Grambling State in the WNIT Second Round.
OUTREBOUNDING = OUTSCORING
The Green Wave are now 3-0 this season when outrebounding opponents and 1-3 when the opponent grabs more rebounds. In victories, Tulane has combined for a +15 rebounding margin. In losses, the Green Wave are a combined -44.
BLOCK PARTY
Junior Harlyn Wyatt had one of the best blocking games of her career on Wednesday night, putting up three blocks to help Tulane defeat McNeese State. Wyatt now leads the team with 11 total blocks, four ahead of second-place Tene Thompson's seven blocks. Wyatt is on pace for close to 50 blocks this year, a number well ahead of her career-best 30 blocks as a sophomore in 2016-17.
CAREER NUMBERS WATCH
At McNeese State:
•   Kolby Morgan got her 50th block.
•   Meredith Schulte recorded her 200th defensive rebound.
•   Kayla Manuirirangi earned her 100th point.
Coming up soon:
•   Kolby Morgan is 7 points shy of 1,800.
•   Harlyn Wyatt will reach 300 rebounds with four more, 200 defensive rebounds with seven more and 400 points with 11 more.
•   Kayla Manuirirangi is three assists away from 50.
