NEW ORLEANS - Following an eight-day hiatus between contests for final exams, Tulane puts its 5-0 home record on the line on Monday, December 18, against Nicholls State at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT) and the game will be broadcast nationally on the WatchESPN app. Tim Grubbs will handle play-by-play, while John Brady provides color commentary.
PROMOTIONS
• Fans are invited to bring a teddy bear to the game when, at halftime, they may toss it onto the court to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana. Those who bring a teddy bear will receive a $5 ticket to the game plus an additional voucher for a select men's basketball game later this season.
HISTORY LESSON
• Monday's meeting between the Green Wave and Colonels will be the first in five years and the 21st overall with Tulane leading the all-time series, 19-1.
• Tulane won the last matchup on Feb. 4, 2012, 65-48, in New Orleans, while Nicholls' only victory in the series came in its lone home game on Nov. 26, 2010 in a 66-52 decision in Thibodaux, La.
LAST TIME OUT
• Cameron Reynolds registered his fifth-career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to go with four assists, but Tulane suffered a 72-53 defeat to Florida State on Sunday, Dec. 10 at Amalie Arena.
• Blake Paul matched a career-high with 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Green Wave.Â
• Braian Angola led all players with 18 points to go with eight boards, while Terance Mann and Trent Forrest added 12 points apiece for Florida State (9-0).
• The Seminoles grew their lead to as many as 26, and while Tulane drew within 16 in the final minutes of the game, Florida State would not allow the Green Wave to get any closer.
• Tulane shot 21-for-59 (.356) overall, 7-for-22 (.318) from 3-point range and 4-for-8 (.500) at the free throw line, while Florida State went 26-for-58 (.448) on the floor, 7-for-21 (.333) from deep and 13-for-24 (.542) at the charity stripe.
• FSU owned a 32-24 scoring advantage in the paint, 17-8 off turnovers, 14-6 on the fast break and 33-15 off the bench while outrebounding the Green Wave, 44-36.
SCOUTING THE COLONELS
• Picked to finish 10th in the Southland Conference, Nicholls' roster makeup includes two starters from last season and 11 newcomers.
• The Colonels own a 1-3 road record this season and enter Monday's matchup coming off a four-game homestand that concluded Saturday evening's 92-51 victory against Culver-Stockton College (Mo.).Â
• Nicholls leads the Southland in scoring offense and 3-pointers made this season, but is last in scoring defense.
• Senior guard Jahvaughn Powell led the Southland with 5.0 assists per game in 2016-17, while the Colonels led the league in blocks.
REYNOLDS SURPASSES 1,000 POINTS
• Redshirt senior Cameron Reynolds scored his 1,000th career point in the 81-65 win over Alcorn State on Nov. 29 to become the 36th player in program history to reach the milestone.
• While his seventh point of the night gave him 1,000, Reynolds poured in a season-high 28 points in the effort and moved from No. 37 to No. 34 on the school's all-time scoring list in that game alone.
TWENTY DIMES MULTIPLE TIMES
• Tulane has combined for at least 20 assists on four occasions this season and is unbeaten in those contests.
• The Green Wave served up 21 helpers in the 102-96 season-opening win over LIU Brooklyn on Nov. 10, 21 in the 80-53 victory over Colorado State on Nov. 17 and 20 more in the 81-65 win against Alcorn State on Nov. 29. They did it once again on Dec. 6 with 20 in the 95-76 home triumph against Southern.
JAMAICAN HISTORY
• Tulane became the first team to win an NCAA Division I college basketball game in Jamaica in an 80-53 victory over Colorado State at the 2017 Jamaica Classic on Nov. 17.
• Melvin Frazier was voted MVP of the tournament, while Cameron Reynolds was chosen to the all-tournament team following Tulane's 2-0 showing in Montego Bay which, was capped by a 63-55 victory against Fordham on Nov. 19.
• Frazier scored 23 points in both games and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds against Fordham, while Reynolds poured in a game-high 25 points against Colorado State.
