The Series
This will be the 112th meeting between Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana. Tulane leads the series, 77-34. The Lions won both meetings last season, 13-4 in Hammond, and 7-6 in New Orleans. The Green Wave won the previous four meetings, and 11 of 15 meetings, dating back to 2012.
Â
Last Week in Brief
Tulane opened the 2017 season and the Travis Jewett era at home against Air Force and Army. Rain on Friday night postponed the opener until Saturday, and shuffled the schedule. The Green Wave had been scheduled to play Army twice and Air Force once, but ended the weekend with a doubleheader split against the Falcons and a single contest with the Black Knights. Tulane won the opener Saturday afternoon, defeating Air Force, 4-3, before falling, 3-2, in the second game. Sunday, Army claimed a 7-4 win. Game 1 starter senior Corey Merrill went 7.0 innings, striking out four against no walks, and allowing two earned runs on six hits. Junior J.P. France also went seven in his Game 2 start, striking out seven batters and allowing two runs on six hits.

Tulane-Southeastern Ties
Southeastern head coach Matt Riser and pitching coach Daniel Latham are both 2007 graduates of Tulane University. Riser (2005-06) and Latham (2004-07) were a part of Tulane's 2005 College World Series team. Tulane redshirt freshman infielder Jonathon Artigues' uncle is Jay Artigues, current Athletics Director and former head baseball coach at Southeastern.

Green Wave Player Debuts
Eight players made their first appearance in a Tulane uniform on opening weekend, including seven true freshmen. Freshman Sal Gozzo started the first two games at shortstop, and hit an RBI single in his first at bat. Junior graduate transfer Ted Andrews earned the save in a perfect inning in Game 1. Pitcher Chase Solesky struck out two batters in 1.2 innings of relief in Game 2, while Jack Hogan tossed 2.2 perfect innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts on Sunday. Kody Hoese started at shortstop on Sunday, and doubled for his first collegiate hit. Robert Price and Keagan Gillies pitched 1.0 and 1.1 relief innings, respectively, and Michael Kirsch scored a run Sunday in a pinch-runner role.
