SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara scored in all but two innings, as Tulane baseball dropped the second game of the series, 14-1, Saturday afternoon at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

The lone run for the Green Wave (1-5) came on a home run by left fielder Jarret DeHart in the fifth inning. The long homer to right field was the second of the season for DeHart. The Wave collected six hits in the game, including two each by first baseman Hunter Williams and right fielder Grant Witherspoon.

Similar to Friday's game, Tulane found itself in a 7-0 hole early. The Gauchos (3-3) scored three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second, and then added single runs in the third and fourth, three in the fifth and two in the seventh innings, on 15 hits.

"Chasing seven (runs) at that point, it's tough to go," Tulane head coach Travis Jewett said. "Especially the way our offense is going. When you get that far apart, it seems like it's a country mile. We have to find a way tomorrow to do something, see if we can come out here and salvage one."

Starter J.P. France fell to 0-1 on the season. Freshmen Jack Hogan and Keagan Gillies each pitched 2.0 innings, and junior Chris Oakley tossed the eighth inning. UCSB starter Kyle Nelson (1-1), a preseason All-American, allowed a run in 5.0 innings and earned the win.

This was the third consecutive game and fourth this season that Tulane has hit a home run. The Green Wave put runners in scoring position on five other occasions – in the second, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings, but was unable to push any more runs across the plate.
