
Morgan Breaks 2,000 Career Points in Loss to Wichita State

NEW ORLEANS – Kolby Morgan entered Saturday's game needing 14 points to eclipse 2,000 in her career.
She scored 15 in the first quarter.
Morgan became the third player in Tulane women's basketball history to break 2,000 career points, finishing with 26 in a 64-56 loss to Wichita State at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave trailed for 34 of the game's 40 minutes but were within 1 point at 52-51 with six minutes left thanks to a Tatyana Lofton jumper. From there, the Shockers went on a 10-0 run to take control.
Coming out of a media timeout with 6:01 left, Rangie Bessard scored 6 consecutive points for the Shockers on a layup and two jumpers over the next two minutes. Cesaria Ambrosio then followed with back-to-back layups, and the Shockers' lead had extended to 62-51 with two minutes left to play.
In that scoreless stretch, Tulane had five turnovers and missed three field goals as Wichita State built its lead. When Maddison Wells finally broke the 10-0 Shockers run with a layup, just 1:51 was left on the clock and Tulane did not have enough time to make a comeback.
Besides her 26 points, Morgan also topped Tulane with six rebounds and three steals. Harlyn Wyatt also added 11 points and was the Green Wave's only other double-digit scorer.
Wichita State dominated inside, scoring 34 points in the paint to Tulane's 20. The Shockers also had 12 blocks and 16 steals on 20 Tulane turnovers. They turned those 20 turnovers into 22 points.
The early part of the game was all about Morgan. The senior had one of the best quarters of her career to begin the contest, scoring 15 points in 10 minutes including a 3-pointer with two seconds left on the clock. The was 5 of 6 from the field in the first quarter and was 3 of 3 from downtown. In the first half, she was 8 of 11 from the field and had 22 points.
Morgan now joins Grace Daley and Stacey Gaudet as the only Green Wave players with 2,000 career points. She is now 68 points away from Gaudet's 2,080 career points and second all-time in team history. Morgan needs 247 more points to move into first place all-time at Tulane in career points.
Tulane is back on the road on Wednesday, traveling to UCF for a contest against the Knights. Tipoff for the game will be at 6 p.m. central, and the game will air live on the American Digital Network.
