NEW ORLEANS – Following back-to-back home games, the Tulane women's basketball team is back on the road this week, head to Orlando, Florida to take on UCF. Tipoff between the Knights and Green Wave will be at 6 p.m. central time.
Tulane fans Saturday's game live on the American Digital Network. The game will also be broadcast on the radio in New Orleans on WRBH 88.3 FM with Gus Kattengell on the call.
STARTING FIVE
1. Senior Kolby Morgan scored her 2,000th career point on Saturday against Wichita State, becoming just the third player in team history to reach that milestone.
2. Morgan scored 15 points in the first quarter and 26 in the game, but it was not enough as Tulane was defeated by Wichita State in the teams' first meeting as conference rivals. Tulane has now lost two straight games and is 1-3 to begin league play.
3. Besides Morgan, junior Harlyn Wyatt also scored in double figures for Tulane against the Shockers. Wyatt has now recorded seven double-digit scoring games this year.
4. Morgan is now just 68 points away from second all-time in Tulane history and 247 points away from the school record for career scoring. At her current pace of 22.2 points per game, Morgan will break the school record for scoring in 12 games.
5. Since joining the AAC for the 2014-15 season, the Green Wave holds a 30-26 record in conference play. Tulane has finished fifth in the league standings during all three of its seasons. UCF has won the last two meetings between the two sides.
SERIES HISTORY – UCF
• Tulane and UCF have squared off 20 times in their histories with the Green Wave winning 12 of those contests.
• UCF is on a two-game winning streak including a March 4 victory last year that ended Tulane's time at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
• Before this current two-game winning streak for the Knights, Tulane had won six in a row in the series.
• Tulane and UCF's rivalry goes back to 1985, but the teams have played each other in all but one year since 2006.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
• The Knights, based in Orlando, Florida, hold an 11-7 record this year and are 3-2 so far in American Athletic Conference play. In the league, the Knights have defeated Temple, SMU and Wichita State while losing to UConn and USF.
• Zakiya Saunders is the team's leading scorer with 13.2 points per game, while Aliyah Gregory (12.2 ppg) and Kornelia Wright (10.6) are also scoring in double figures.
• Nyala Shuler is the team's best rebounder with 7.3 boards per game, and Wright is the top passer with 3.6 assists per game.
• As a team, the Knights rank 23rd in the nation with 192 total steals. Wright is 35th in the nation in that category with 47 steals this year.
TULANE IN THE AAC
Since joining the AAC for the 2014-15 season, the Green Wave holds a 30-26 record in conference play. Tulane has finished fifth in the league standings during all three of its seasons. This is Tulane's fourth season in the league after spending the previous 19 seasons in Conference USA.
2,000 POINTS REACHED
Senior Kolby Morgan reached a rare milestone on Saturday against Wichita State, recording her 2,000th career point. Morgan had 15 points in the first quarter and 26 in the game, easily bettering the 14 she needed entering the game to reach 2,000. Morgan is just the third player in Tulane history with 2,000 career points and is one of seven active players in the nation with 2,000 career points.
CHEATHAM'S FIRST START
Freshman Sierra Cheatham got her first career start on Saturday against Wichita State and set a new career high in minutes and assists during the process. Cheatham played 37 minutes of the game and had five assists; her previous highs in those categories were 26 and three, respectively.
SHE'S NUMBER SEVEN
Tulane senior guard Kolby Morgan finds herself near the top of the nation's active career scorers list. With 2,012 points in her career as of Tuesday morning, Morgan is the seventh-highest scoring active player in the nation.
Morgan is also 10th in the nation among active players in field goal attempts, 11th in field goals made, 14th in points per game, 20th in steals and 22nd in 3-pointers made.
WHERE MORGAN RANKS THIS YEAR
Morgan is already having a stellar year for Tulane, ranking in the top 50 in the nation in multiple categories. As of Tuesday morning, Morgan is 13th in the country in total points with 378, 11th in points per game at 22.2, 37th in 3-pointers made with 50, 27th in made field goals with 128 and 28th in field goal attempts with 277.
