NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's basketball team opens the month of December when it hosts Southeastern Louisiana for the third straight season on Saturday, December 1. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on Cox Sports TV with streaming available on the WatchESPN app.
STARTING FIVE
  1. Tulane looks to snap a three-game skid and hosts the second of three consecutive home tilts when Southeastern Louisiana comes to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse for the third straight season and seventh time in as many meetings dating back to 1994.
  2. In third-year head coach Mike Dunleavy's first two matchups against the Lions, the Green Wave have won by an average of 20 points. The 93-76 triumph on Nov. 14, 2016 marked Dunleavy's first win at the helm of the program, while last year's 89-66 victory was backed by five Tulane scorers in double-figures, led by Melvin Frazier's 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
  3. Caleb Daniels has scored in double-figures in five straight games and has led the Green Wave in points in three of the last four contests. During that span, he is averaging 17.4 points and shooting 49 percent overall. He scored a career-high 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting in the 84-80 win over South Dakota State at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., on Nov. 19.
  4. Tulane has flaunted what Dunleavy has called his deepest team since his arrival. The Green Wave have deployed a 10-man rotation through the first six games, while nine players average double-digit minutes.
  5. Tulane faces a familiar face for the first time Saturday, as Southeastern Louisiana's starting point guard, Von Julien, lettered two years with the Green Wave in 2016 and 2017, drawing 16 starts as a freshman in 2015-16.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
• The Lions enter Saturday's contest coming off an 86-71 home win over Louisiana College on Monday night, but they are 0-4 in road games this season.
• Southeastern is led by seniors Moses Greenwood (16.4 ppg/8.4 rpg) and Marlain Veal (13.3 ppg/5.0 apg), as the Lions return three starters from last year's squad that went 22-12 overall, 15-3 in the Southland Conference and played in the NIT.
• In their four road losses, Southeastern's average margin of defeat is 28 points per game, which includes setbacks at LSU, Nebraska, Texas Tech and Mississippi Valley State.
PROTECTING THE ROCK
• The Green Wave committed just six turnovers in the 84-80 win over South Dakota State on Nov. 19. That number ties the fewest by the team under head coach Mike Dunleavy, with the last occurrence coming at USF in February 2018.
DOUBLE-DIGIT DIMES
• Redshirt freshman point guard Shakwon Barrett handed out 10 assists with just two turnovers in the Green Wave's 81-76 home win over Coastal Carolina on Nov. 13. The last player to have at least 10 in a game was Malik Morgan, who recorded 12 at ECU on Feb. 4, 2017.
HALF-DOZEN CORNISH TREYS
• Redshirt senior guard Jordan Cornish had one of his best outside shooting performances of his career, sinking six 3-pointers in a 19-point performance against Coastal Carolina on Nov. 13. The six treys were tied for the sixth most in a single-game and marked the 26th time a player has made at least that many in program history.
AAC WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
• Freshman swingman Kevin Zhang was selected to the first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll of the 2018-19 season on November 12.
• Starting in his college debut against 17th-ranked Florida State, Zhang scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds with two assists and just one turnover in 35 minutes. The Shenyang, China native shot 9-for-13 overall, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range, while 17 of his 24 points came in the second half.Â
OLDEST ARENAS
• Tulane's home arena, Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse, is one of the oldest active arenas in college basketball:
1. Matthews Arena – Northeastern – April 16, 1910
2. Rose Hill Gym – Fordham – Jan. 16, 1925
3. Lavietes Pavilion – Harvard - 1926
4. The Palestra – Penn – Jan. 1, 1927
5. Edmundson Pavilion – Washington – Dec. 27, 1927
6. Williams Arena – Minnesota – Feb. 4, 1928
7. Hinkle Fieldhouse – Butler – March 7, 1928
8. Payne Whitney Gym – Yale – Dec. 10, 1932
9. Fogelman in Devlin – Tulane – Dec. 15, 1933
10. Haas Pavilion – California – Jan. 13, 1933
STRENGTH WITHIN THE SCHEDULE
• Tulane will play a minimum of 11 regular-season games against nine teams that earned postseason bids in 2018, including seven opponents that played in the NCAA Tournament (Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia State, Houston, South Dakota State, Texas Southern and Wichita State). Temple and Southeastern Louisiana made NIT appearances.
• The Green Wave will host 15 home games and will head out to compete in five neutral-site contests. The Wave will play just one true road tilt in the non-conference slate at South Alabama on Dec. 8.
DUNLEAVYS LONE FATHER-SON HEAD-COACHING DUO
 • In his third season as head coach, Mike Dunleavy Sr., is the only head coach with a son who is also a head coach at the NCAA Division I level.
 • His son, Baker Dunleavy, is in his second season at the helm of Quinnipiac's program.
ZHANG'S ARRIVAL MARKS RARE FOREIGN IMPORT
NCAA Division I men's basketball players hailing from China are rare, as freshman swingman Kevin Zhang is one of just five players nationally who can stake that claim along with CS Fullerton sophomore Johnny Wang, CS Northridge freshman Michael Ou, Cal-Berkley freshman James Zhao and UPenn frosh Michael Wang.
#NBAWAVE
• Melvin Frazier Jr. and Cameron Reynolds have begun their professional careers in 2018-19, as Frazier is currently on the Orlando Magic's G-League team in Lakeland, Florida, and Reynolds begins the season with the Sacramento Kings' G-League affiliate in Stockton.
• Frazier became the 20th player in Tulane history to be chosen in the NBA Draft and the first in 21 years when he was chosen in the second round, 35th overall, by the Magic in June.
• Reynolds received a guaranteed contract from the Kings, including a spot on the club's Summer League team, a training camp invitation and a guaranteed a roster spot with Stockton for the 2018-19 campaign.
