NEW ORLEANS – Tulane will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday when it travels to new conference foe Wichita State for the first time ever. Tipoff at Koch Arena is set for 2 p.m.
Â
Saturday's game will be televised live on ESPN3. The game will also be broadcast on the radio in New Orleans on WODT 1280 AM with Gus Kattengell providing commentary.
Â
STARTING FIVE
- Tulane committed 15 turnovers in the first 15 minutes against No. 1 UConn and lost 91-47 to the top-ranked Huskies. Kolby Morgan was the team's top scorer with 15 points.
- Now at 748 career made field goals, Morgan passed up all-time leading scorer Grace Daley on that list. To break the school record, Morgan needs to make just 10 more field goals to surpass Stacey Gaudet's 757 career made field goals.
- With her 14-point effort at Memphis on Sunday, Kolby Morgan eclipsed the 500 point mark in a season for her third consecutive year. No player in team history has three seasons of 600 or more points.
- Averaging 3.8 assists per game for the year, sophomore guard Kayla Manuirirangi recorded her 100th assist against Memphis on Sunday.
- Since joining the AAC for the 2014-15 season, the Green Wave holds a 33-33 record in conference play. Tulane has finished fifth in the league standings during all three of its seasons. Tulane is 1-1 all-time against Wichita State.
SERIES HISTORY – WICHITA STATE
- Tulane and Wichita State have played just twice before in their history.
- The teams' first meeting came during the Oakland Tribute Classic in Berkeley, California in December 2003. In that game, the Green Wave prevailed by a 62-59 score.
- When the teams met earlier this year in New Orleans, the Shockers got their first victory over Tulane by a 64-56 score.
SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS
- The Shockers, based in Wichita, Kansas, are 12-16 on the season and 7-7 in their first year in the American Athletic Conference. They have beaten Memphis, Tulane, SMU, USF, Memphis, Temple and SMU again in conference play.
- Wichita State is currently on a two-game winning streak, and all five of their previous league wins came in a five-game winning streak from January 10-27.
- Rangie Bessard is the team's top scorer with 19.5 points per game. She also leads the way in rebounding at 7.4 boards per game. In the conference, Bessard's 19.5 points per game is fourth in the AAC this year.
- Diamond Lockhart is the team's only other double-figure scorer at 10.1 points per game. Lockhart also tops the team with 85 assists.
TULANE IN THE AAC
Since joining the AAC for the 2014-15 season, the Green Wave holds a 33-33 record in conference play. Tulane has finished fifth in the league standings during all three of its seasons. This is Tulane's fourth season in the league after spending the previous 19 seasons in Conference USA.
Â
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT SCENARIOS
With two games remaining in the regular season, Tulane finds itself in the bottom half of the conference standings. The Green Wave can no longer finish higher than eighth in the conference and can finish as low as 11th. Two victories to close out the season would earn Tulane the No. 8 seed with a 6-10 league record. Other results for Tulane combined with results from other teams could put the Green Wave in either ninth, 10th or 11th place in the standings.
Â
#2 IN MADE FGs
Kolby Morgan continues to move up the Tulane record books in multiple categories, and on Wednesday against UConn she became the team's second-leading field goal maker all time. Now at 748 career made field goals, Morgan passed up all-time leading scorer Grace Daley on that list. To break the school record, Morgan needs to make just 10 more field goals to surpass Stacey Gaudet's 757 career made field goals.
Â
100 ASSISTS FOR MANU
After barely playing as freshman, point guard Kayla Manuiriangi has made herself at home in the Tulane lineup this year. Last week, she reached a nice round number in her first season with regular minutes. Averaging 3.8 assists per game for the year, Manuirirangi recorded her 100th assist against Memphis on Sunday.
Â
500 POINTS IN A YEAR
With her 14-point effort at Memphis on Sunday, Kolby Morgan eclipsed the 500 point mark in a season for her third consecutive year. More, already No. 2 in Tulane's all-time scoring list, is one of just two players with three seasons of 500 points or more in Tulane history. The other is all-time leading scorer Grace Daley. No player in team history has three seasons of 600 or more points.
Â
SECOND-BEST SCORER EVER AT TULANE
Entering the February 3 game against USF, Kolby Morgan needed just three points to move up to second place all-time in team history. She scored those points in the first quarter, officially passing Stacey Gaudet and her 2,080 career points. Morgan now has 2,154 points, 105 away from the school record held by Grace Daley.
Â
If Tulane plays only four more games on the year, Morgan would break the program record by averaging 35.0 points per game. If Tulane plays six more games this year – the same as it did in 2016-17 – Morgan could break the program record with 17.5 points per game. She is averaging 19.3 points per game this year.
Â
BREAKING THE FIELD GOAL ATTEMPT RECORD
Besides setting her sights on the Tulane points record, Morgan is now the record holder for two other Tulane marks. She broke the program's all-time starts record in late January, and on Saturday at Cincinnati became Tulane's all-time leader in field goals attempted. Morgan has now attempted 1,745 field goals, surpassing the 1,723 taken by Stacey Gaudet.
