Mar 29, 2018 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team will host three matches in two days, beginning this Friday, March 30 with a 1 p.m., match against UL Monroe at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
The Green Wave will host a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday, March 31, beginning with a noon matchup with Southern Miss, followed by a 3 p.m., contest against Southern University. Seniors Sade Atkinson and Sofia Kurtz will be recognized during a ceremony at the conclusion of the first match.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (8-10) dropped a tough American Athletic Conference matchup, 4-2, to SMU last Sunday. The Green Wave dropped a tight doubles point and despite tying the match twice with a pair of singles wins by Elena Muller and Christina Sisti on court five and six, respectively, and despite forcing a third set on court one, the Mustangs were able to win that frame and clinch the match.
SCOUTING UL MONROE
The Warhawks (7-6) enter Friday's match winners in four of their last five, including a tight, 4-3 home win over Louisiana Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. They share one common opponent with Tulane in Auburn, but dropped that contest, 4-0, on January 19
SCOUTING SOUTHERN MISS
The Golden Eagles (15-3) enter Saturday's contest undefeated during the month of March and are riding an eight-match winning streak. While their last defeat came on Feb. 28 in a 4-3 setback to Nicholls State, they are 3-1 in true road matches this spring and will play at Alcorn State on Thursday afternoon after a 13-day break between matches. Southern Miss is led by Rikeetha Pereira's 15-2 record this spring playing at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, while Tjasa Jerse owns a 14-2 mark splitting time at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN
The Jaguars (6-10) recently locked up the No. 3 seed in the SWAC Tournament and have won five of their last seven matches after beginning the season with a 1-8 record. In their most recent outing, they dropped a 4-1 decision at Bethune Cookman on Sunday.
THE LONG ROAD HOME
Tulane played seven straight matches on the road, which began on Feb. 20 at LSU and ended with a March 18 road matchup at Memphis. The Green Wave played four matches on two separate trips to Tennessee (Feb. 24-25 and March 17-18) and a pair in Norfolk, Va. (March 10-11), despite two matches in Storrs, Conn., (March 3-4) being cancelled.
