MOBILE, Alabama – The Tulane University women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2018 University of South Alabama Intercollegiate on Monday and finished fourth thanks to a final score of 291. The Green Wave finished the three-day event with a three-round total of 871.
Â
The tournament was held at the par 72, 6,002-yard RTJ Magnolia Grove – Crossing Course.
As a team, Tulane led the tournament field with 193 pars. The Green Wave also tallied 35 birdies, which ranked fifth among all teams.
Â
"There were a lot of positives out there today," head coach Lorne Don said. "I think we have some things to work on as far as converting opportunities. I think we gave ourselves a lot of chances, which is what we were trying to do going into the tournament, we just didn't convert enough of them."
Â
Sophomore Jennifer Rosenberg highlighted the event for the Green Wave as she posted a career-best finish, tying for sixth with a tournament total of 214. Rosenberg carded a pair of birdies and had just one bogey on the front nine and was even par on the back nine en route to posting her second round under par of the tournament, finishing with a 71.
Â
"Jenny played great all week," Don said. "I know she felt like she left a few shots out there today, so she could have gone even lower. I think there is still room to improve and I know she sees that and that's really exciting for someone who is a sophomore and is coming off a great year as a freshman."
Â
Senior Laura Munoz was the next Green Wave finisher as she tied for 16th. Munoz finished final round play with a one-over-par score of 71 and closed with a three-round total of 216.
Â
Freshman Isabella Cardenas, junior Haydyn Gibson and junior Gabrielle Correia rounded out the Tulane lineup as they finished tied for 28th, tied for 37th and tied for 48th, respectively.
Â
California Baptist captured the team title thanks to a final round score of 282 to give the Lancers a three-round total of 860. Western Kentucky's Mary Joiner won the tournament with a three-round score of 208.
Â
"I think we were hoping to have a little better day today, but California Baptist played really well and went out and won the tournament," Don said. "We just came up a few strokes shy."
Â
Tulane returns to action on Oct. 12, as it heads to the Ruth Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
