Â
VETERAN MAKEUP
Tulane returns a strong cast comprising six letterwinners from last year's roster, including their No. 2 through No. 6 starters in the singles lineup which made up more than 81 percent of the team's results from the 2018 spring season.
Â
Seniors Elena Muller and Ivone Alvaro lead the way, followed by juniors Christina Sisti and Laura Fabrizi. Sophomores Daniela La Fuente and Alex Alegre fill out the returning members of the roster.
Â
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN STATE
The Lady Demons are led by second year head coach Patric DuBois, who led the team to a 16-9 overall record and a trip to the Southland Conference title match last spring. Northwestern State's top players include reigning Southland Conference Player of the Year Polina Mutel and Newcomer of the Year Ela Iwaniuk. Mutel went 17-6 in singles in 2018, while Iwaniuk posted a 14-9 mark.
Â
LAST TIME THEY MET
Tulane and Northwestern State battled it out in New Orleans in last year's spring opener as the Green Wave cruised to a 4-0 victory, highlighted by straight-set victories by Christina Sisti at No. 5 and Ivone Alvaro at No. 3 singles.
Â
DUAL SINGLES WIN STREAKS
Junior Christina Sisti and senior Elena Muller ended their 2018 spring seasons on impressive winning streaks that will carry over into 2019. Sisti has won eight straight decisions in dual matches, while Muller closed last spring with five consecutive victories.
Â
FALL RECAP
The Green Wave played in four tournaments during the 2018 fall season at Florida State, Kentucky, Alabama and the ITA Southern Regional hosted by Ole Miss.
Â
In doubles, Elena Muller and Ivone Alvaro reached the quarterfinals of the main draw at ITA Regionals Oct. 12-15, before Alvaro and Laura Fabrizi claimed an impressive victory in their draw at Alabama with wins over teams from Indiana, Ole Miss and Mississippi
NEW FACES
The Green Wave welcomes just one newcomer for the 2018 season with the addition of freshman Adelaide Lavery. A Toronto, Ontario native, she attended Heritage Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., before arriving at Tulane. Lavery posted a 4-8 singles and 4-6 combined doubles mark during her first fall campaign.
Â
5-STAR SIGNEES
Head coach Maria Brito and assistant coach Keri Wong have left their imprints on the recruiting trail since their arrival, and their efforts paid off in a big way in November during the NCAA Early Signing Period. The Green Wave reeled in two 5-star recruits according to tennisrecruiting.net with the additions of Lahari Yelamanchili and Mackenzie Clark.
Â
Yelamanchili is the No. 1 ranked player in Illinois and the No. 50 overall player in the class of 2019, while Clark is a Morristown, N.J. native who trains in College Park, Md., ranking No. 3 in the state and No. 77 nationally.
