
Track and Field Heads to Texas for Highly Competitive Meet

NEW ORLEANS – After two meets in Birmingham to begin its season, the Green Wave indoor track & field team will venture west to the Lone Star State on Friday and Saturday for some challenging competition at the Texas Tech Classic.
The two-day meet, hosted in Lubbock, Texas, will take place at the Sports Performance Center on Texas Tech's campus. Competition at the meet for Tulane will include seven top-25 teams: No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Southern California, No. 16 Texas Tech, No. 24 Miami and No. 25 NC State.

Action is set to begin Friday afternoon with field events kicking off at 3 p.m. and going through 7:30 p.m. Tulane will take part in the 'B' flight pole vault and triple jump Friday. On the track Friday, the distance medley relay, 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and 400-meter races will be contested with the DMR racing at 5 p.m. and the finals of the 60 going at 7:55 p.m.
On Saturday, things begin earlier with the 'A' flight pole vault, long jump and high jump. Events start at 10 a.m. and will continue throughout the day until the afternoon. Track events Saturday start at noon with the mile and continue with the 800, 200, 3K and 4x400 relays at approximately 3:10 p.m.
Last weekend in Birmingham, the Green Wave had a terrific performance at the Samford Invite. There, the team won five events and placed 17 in the top five of events. Rebekah Markel (pole vault), Trina Malej (long jump), Kyah Loyd (60 hurdles), Maya Harewood (400 meters) and the 4x400 relay team all won their events.
Following their trip to Lubbock, the Green Wave will return much closer to home for their next meet. Tulane will compete at the LSU Bayou Bengal meet on February 1 in Baton Rouge.
