NEW ORLEANS – The No. 6 Tulane bowling team opens the month of February, along with a stretch of three straight competition weekends this Friday when opening play at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
Â
The three-day competition is taking place this weekend at the USBC's International Training and Research Center, the training hub and home for Team USA. The format for this weekend's tournament will feature five, five-game Baker matches on Friday, six traditional matches on Saturday, one more traditional match and two more Baker matches that are best four out of seven on Sunday.
Â
"It is exciting to be invited to this tournament as this is a great experience for the team competing at the ITRC," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "This is a very competitive field but providing we work all together and take one match at a time we can achieve what we want to."
Â
The Green Wave head into the invitational with a 40-24 overall record, earning a top 10 finish in each of the team's five competitions so far this year. Tulane has a pin average of 190.66, knocking down 23,833 in 125 total games.
Â
Two weeks ago at the KU Invitational in Pennsylvania, senior Tiera Gulum earned her second all-tournament honor of the season after finishing 13th individually in the 28-team competition. Gulum leads Tulane with a 197.77 pin average and 4,351 total pins knocked down.
Â
Junior Isabelle Lee and freshman Crystal Singh both rolled season-high scores with Lee rolling a 247 against Maryland Eastern Shore and Singh with a 327 against Monmouth in Limerick.
Â
The field in Texas features 10 of the top 11 teams in the country according to the NTCA poll, led by No. 1 McKendree, No. 2 Nebraska, No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Arkansas State, No. 5 Sam Houston State, Tulane, No. 7 Farleigh Dickinson, No 8 UMES, No. 10 SFA and No. 11 North Carolina A&T.
Â
Following the invitational, the Green Wave will then compete in the Sunshine State Winter Classic in Orlando, Florida, next weekend and close competition for the rest of the month at the SFA Ladyjack Invitational in Houston, Texas, the following week.
