CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Carlota Palacios led the Tulane University women's golf team in the second round at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational with a career-low score of five-under 67. As a team, the Green Wave finished the second round at the UNC Finley Golf Course 15th with a score of 16-over 592.
Palacios opened her record-breaking second round with a bogey then went on to birdie three-straight on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes. She posted five-straight pars before logging birdies on the par-four first hole, the par-five third hole and the par-four seventh holes. The Vitoria, Spain, native finished the round tied for fourth overall with a total score of five-under 137. She logged 10 birdies over the two rounds.
"We're showing signs of improvement in our team score," Green Wave head coach Stew Burke said. "We missed a chance to capitalize on Carlota's great round, but overall I'm pleased that everyone hung in there until the end. We have to play the par-fives better tomorrow as this was the difference between what we shot and an under-par team score."
Junior Jennifer Rosenberg posted a round at two-over 74 in the second. She registered two birdies in the second round. Rosenberg closed the day 77th overall with a total score of eight-over 152.
Freshman Sandra Vazquez posted a second round score of three-over 75. She finished the day tied for 68th at five-over 149.
Sophomore Isabella Cardenas posted a score of three-under 75 in the second round with one birdie. Cardenas finished the round tied for 78th overall with a total score of nine-over 153.
Freshman Hanna Liu closed the second day tied for 92nd after posting a score of three-over 75 in the second round. She logged one birdie on the day. After two rounds of play, Liu holds a score of 14-over 158.
Kentucky leads all teams at 15-under 561. Duke's Jaravee Boonchant, Michigan State's Valery Plata and Ohio State's Aneka Seumanutafa are the top individuals at seven-under 137.
The third and final round will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday with a shotgun start. Tomorrow's action can be followed via Golfstat. Live stats can be found by clicking here.
