Sailing Wins Final Race in Women's Showcase Finals
Oct 13, 2019 | Sailing
ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – The Tulane sailing team wrapped up the Jen Harris Women's Showcase Finals on a high note, earning a first-place finish in the final race of the day on Sunday.
Due to the weather, the Green Wave women only sailed in two races to finish off the regatta, solidifying their 15th place standing among 18 of the country's top teams.
"Unfortunately we didn't have many opportunities today as the weather limited us to only a couple races," head coach Charles Higgins said. "Caroline [Benson] and Lydia [Brown] did an outstanding job winning the last race of the day, and sailed nearly flawlessly from start to finish. Again, to be in the top 15 in the country at this stage is a great position for our program, and we are excited to continue progressing forward."
Skipper Ciara Rodriguez-Horan and crew Grace Siwicki finished in 15th of 18 in the A Division, totaling 118 points to defeat Fordham, Northeastern and Rhode Island.
The B Division boat earned the same 15th-place finish, with skipper Caroline Benson and crew Lydia Brown totaling 123 points after an impressive final race. The two defeated Fordham, Tufts and Boston University.
Tulane totaled 241 points as a team, beating Tufts (251), Northeastern (265) and Fordham (270).
Brown won the regatta, totaling 114 points, followed by Yale with 126 and Harvard with 135.
The team is back in action next weekend, set to sail in the Coed Showcase Finals on Saturday and Sunday in Newport, Rhode Island.
