NASSAU, Bahamas – The Tulane University women's golf team finished the first round of the White Sands Invitational tied for 12th with a team score of 11-over 299.
Senior Haydyn Gibson led the way for the Green Wave with score of even-par 72 to tie for 21st. Gibson recorded four birdies on the day.
"Today was a mix of very good golf and some poor decision making," Green Wave head coach Stew Burke said. "Haydyn [Gibson] and Hanna [Liu] had good rounds highlighted by Hanna's hole out for eagle on her 17th hole. We did a great job getting off to a good start on the toughest holes on the course and need to finish stronger tomorrow as a group. Lots of positives to build upon as we move on to round two."
Freshman Hanna Liu closed the first round with a score of two-over 74 to tie for 35th. Liu logged two birdies and eagled the par-five 13th hole.
Freshman Carlota Palacios finished the first round with a score of three-over 75 to tie for 42nd. She registered three birdies on the round.
Junior Jennifer Rosenberg tied for 72nd at six-over 78, while senior Gabrielle Correia rounded out the Olive and Blue lineup with a score of seven-over 79 to tie for 76th.
No. 3 Texas leads all teams with a score of 12-under 276, while the Longhorns' Sophie Guo leads all individuals at six-under 66.
The second round will start at 7 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start. Tomorrow's action can be followed via Golfstat. Live stats can be found by clicking here.
