Men's Basketball Stumbles in Conference Defeat at Memphis
Feb 20, 2019 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS – Caleb Daniels scored a career-high 25 points and Moses Wood also tallied a personal-best with 17 more off the bench, but the Tulane men's basketball team suffered a 102-76 road loss at Memphis in American Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at FedEx Forum.

It was Daniels' seventh 20-point effort of the season, as he shot 10-for-17 overall and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc to go with five assists, while Wood contributed six rebounds and three blocks.

Samir Sehic posted his eighth double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 boards, while Jordan Cornish led all players with a career-high 10 assists.

The Tigers (16-11, 8-6 AAC) built their first double-digit advantage of the night on a step-back 3-pointer by Martin with 14:45 to make it 17-6. The Green Wave (4-21, 0-13 AAC) responded with a 10-3 run of their own, capped by a Wood trey at the 11:47 mark to climb back within four, 20-16.

Memphis extended the lead back over 10 points and created a margin as wide as 18 points with 2:06 remaining in the first half, but Tulane closed the period with nine straight points to cut that deficit in half heading into the intermission down 47-38.

The Green Wave were slow out of the second-half gate, as the Tigers exploded with the first 17 points of the period, before a Kevin Zhang dunk ended the scoring streak just over five minutes in.

Memphis grew its lead to as many as 31 with 5:30 remaining, before holding on for the 26-point home win.

Jeremiah Martin led all players with 43 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, as Tyler Harris chipped in 16 more off the bench.

Tulane returns home to host East Carolina on Saturday, February 23 at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
