Mar 7, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team continues its Florida trip with its third and final stop at 27th-ranked UCF on Friday, March 8. First serve is set for 10 a.m. (CT) at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla.
Â
SCOUTING UCF
The Knights (10-2) enter Friday's matchup riding an eight-match winning streak, extending it with a 6-1 home win over Yale on Sunday afternoon. UCF possesses two ranked singles players in No. 27 Valeryia Zeleva and No. 70 Ksenia Kuznetsova, who also combine as the nation's 18th-ranked doubles tandem.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (5-9) dropped a tight, 4-3 neutral-site match against UPenn on Monday afternoon. The Wave were unable to win the doubles point, but managed three singles wins by Daniela La Fuente, Christina Sisti and Alex Alegre on courts two, three and six, respectively.
Â
IN THE ITA RANKINGS
In the latest Oracle/ITA national rankings released on March, the doubles duo of Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller were listed at No. 62 nationally. The duo owns a 12-1 overall record and a 10-1 mark this spring. Their season-high ranking was No. 25 on February 20.
Â
THE DOUBLES POINT
Tulane has won the doubles point in eight of 14 matches this season. The Green Wave's lone victory while not securing the point came in the season opener against Northwestern State, where Tulane walked away with a 4-3 victory.
Â
5-STAR SIGNEES
Head coach Maria Brito and assistant coach Keri Wong have left their imprints on the recruiting trail since their arrival, and their efforts paid off in a big way in November during the NCAA Early Signing Period. The Green Wave reeled in two 5-star recruits according to tennisrecruiting.net with the additions of Lahari Yelamanchili and Mackenzie Clark.
Â
Yelamanchili is the No. 1 ranked player in Illinois and the No. 50 overall player in the class of 2019, while Clark is a Morristown, N.J. native who trains in College Park, Md., ranking No. 3 in the state and No. 77 nationally.
