
Beach Volleyball Defeats UNO and HBU, Goes 4-1 in March to May

GULF SHORES, Alabama – The Tulane beach volleyball team (9-7, 4-5 CCSA) earned an impressive 4-1 record in the March to May this weekend, closing the tournament with wins over New Orleans and Houston Baptist on Saturday while dropping one match to No. 18 Georgia State.
Juniors Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella extended their winning streak to nine in the Green Wave's first match of the day, earning a two-set win over UNO's Veronica Corcoran and Rachel Kuhn. The duo then secured an additional two-set victory on the sand in the final match of the weekend, taking down HBU's Tori Hinojosa and Bailey Banks from the No. 1 position.
Also recording two wins on Saturday, Rio Frohoff and Lauren Orlich started the day with a come-from-behind win over UNO's Blessing Dunn and Brianna Vega on court two, tallying 17-21, 21-17 and 20-18 set scores. The sophomores moved to court three for their final competition of the weekend, grabbing the two-set win over Houston Baptist's Kylie Bryan and Lindsey Harris.
Freshmen Haley Gibson and Ellie Leitko had a successful performance from the No. 4 spot, defeating UNO's Ryan Rand and Madison Miller in straight sets before earning the three-set victory over Houston Baptist's Conley Harris and Lauren Huggins. The first-year pair were also just short of taking the match against Georgia State, falling in a three-set battle to Mattie Johnson and Kelly Dorn with 21-16, 12-21 and 12-15 set scores.
Junior Tarin Mergener and sophomore Addison Hermstad came back together on court three to start the day off, grabbing a quick win over UNO's Victoria Corcoran and Ally Carr in Tulane's 4-1 win.
Tulane is back at home next Saturday, hosting New Orleans for a consecutive weekend matchup, along with Coastal Carolina, in the Green Wave Invitational.
