
Women's Tennis Hosts Nicholls, New Orleans in Final Home Matches

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team will host a doubleheader against Nicholls State and the University of New Orleans in its final two home matches of the season on Wednesday, April 3 at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (7-12) will face Nicholls at 1 p.m., before taking on UNO at 4 p.m.

SCOUTING NICHOLLS
The Colonels (3-10) enter Wednesday's contest with losses in eight of their last nine matches, but snapped an eight-match skid in their most recent outing - a 5-2 road win at Incarnate Word on Sunday afternoon. Nicholls' other two wins this spring were consecutive 4-0 decisions against Jackson State and Prairie View A&M in February.
SCOUTING NEW ORLEANS
The Privateers (9-7)Â enter Wednesday with losses in six of their last eight matches, most recently suffering a 5-2 defeat at Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon. UNO shares two common opponents with Tulane, including a 6-1 home setback against Northwestern State on March 10 and a 7-0 home loss to Marshall on March 22. Trang Dao, Mar Gendra and Salma Abdelrahim lead the team with 8-6 records in dual matches this spring, while Dao and Ank Vullings own a 9-3 record playing No. 1 doubles.

LAST TIME OUT
Tulane used a dominant effort in doubles with wins on courts one and two, respectively, followed by a quick start in singles to complete a 4-0 shutout win over Southern Miss at home on Saturday afternoon. Elena Muller, Daniela La Fuente and Ivone Alvaro earned respective straight-set singles victories on courts one, two and three to complete and clinch the win.

IN THE ITA RANKINGS
In the latest Oracle/ITA national rankings released on March 19, the doubles duo of Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller are listed at No. 33 nationally. The duo owns a 16-2 overall record and a 14-1 mark at the top spot in the lineup this spring. Their season-high ranking was No. 25 on February 20.

THE DOUBLES POINT
Tulane has won the doubles point in nine of 16 matches this season. The Green Wave's lone victory while not securing the point came in the season opener against Northwestern State, where Tulane walked away with a 4-3 victory.

5-STAR SIGNEES
Head coach Maria Brito and assistant coach Keri Wong have left their imprints on the recruiting trail since their arrival, and their efforts paid off in a big way in November during the NCAA Early Signing Period. The Green Wave reeled in two 5-star recruits according to tennisrecruiting.net with the additions of Lahari Yelamanchili and Mackenzie Clark.

Yelamanchili is the No. 1 ranked player in Illinois and the No. 50 overall player in the class of 2019, while Clark is a Morristown, N.J. native who trains in College Park, Md., ranking No. 3 in the state and No. 77 nationally.
