NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Tulane baseball team opens a stretch of four straight midweek home contests on Tuesday night, hosting the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at 6:30 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Â
TulaneGreenWave.com will have the live stream of the contest between Tulane and the Lions, with a link to the video and live stats on the home page. Todd Graffagnini will provide play-by-play on the radio home of Tulane baseball on WRBH 88.3 FM in New Orleans.
Â
Fans coming out to Tuesday's game can pick up a Bruno's Tavern t-shirt at the entrance gates to the park, as on Cosplay Day, fans who dress up as their favorite movie or television characters can get tickets to the game for $5 and pick up special team themed posters.
Â
Tulane will get a good dose of home comforts beginning on Tuesday, as the squad will not venture outside of the city for the final four remaining midweek contests between now and the end of the season in May. The last time the team had a midweek game at home came all the way back in March in a win over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Â
The Green Wave split a doubleheader against the Memphis Tigers on Saturday, coming into Tuesday's game with a 26-13 overall record on the season. Tuesday's game will be a quick jaunt at home, getting back on the road this weekend to open the second half of league play at ECU.
Â
In the second game of the doubleheader that Tulane won via run-rule, the Green Wave scored 15 runs over the course of two innings to put the game out of reach, including plating nine in the fifth. It was the third time this year the team has had nine cross the plate in a frame, as Tulane has scored 20 runs in each of the last two weekends and three times this season.
Â
While eight players combined for all 20 of the team's season-high hits in the win, none had bigger swings than junior Grant Mathews who hit a pair of three-run home runs in the game. After not having a player drive in six in a contest since 2008, Tulane has now had two do it in within a span of a week in Mathews and Trevor Jensen.
Â
Mathews is now second on the team in RBI with 38, while raising his batting average 10 points which now sits at .322. Everyone continues to trail leader Kody Hoese, who upped his batting average to .415 after crushing a pair of doubles and a home run in the two-game series against Memphis, as he's now tied for the nation's lead with 20 on the year.
Â
In holding Memphis to five runs in the final game, the pitching staff will look to build on that momentum as the staff has held opponents to fewer than five runs in four of the team's last 10. Krishna Raj, who last pitched against USF, is in line for his fifth start of the year on Tuesday.
Â
29 combined runs were scored the last time the two sides met earlier this month in Hammond, with Tulane winning 15-14 after holding off a late Lion rally. Since that game Southeastern Louisiana took two of three against Northwestern State and Nicholls, while earning a win against McNeese in between to sit at 21-19 overall.
