The Green Wave (6-2) hit .219 on the night and finished with 56 total kills, with Green and Douglas leading a pack of Tulane players that finished with at least five or more kills on the night. Green hit a blistering .429 for the Green Wave, with Douglas hitting .241 and having five service aces.
Makala Heidelberg finished with nine kills and had 12 digs with three blocks to tie Green with the team lead, followed by Kayla Dinkins who had eight kills and hit .222, adding a pair of blocks.
Amanda Giardina had 26 assists to lead the team, adding nine digs and three kills on the night, followed by Jenna Ibieta who had 14 assists and six digs. Kaylie McHugh led all players with 17 digs against the Privateers, having five assists and a service ace for the Green Wave.
With the opening set knotted at three, Tulane rattled off four consecutive points to extend their lead to 7-3, capped by a Douglas service ace. The Privateers would not be able to get too much closer to the Wave, but when the opposition was able to pull within two points at 15-13, Tulane proceeded to go on a 6-0 run to push the lead to 21-13.
A kill from Douglas ended the opener, handing the set to the Wave at 25-19, as Tulane finished the opening frame hitting .212 as a group. Yvette Burcescu had four kills in the opener to pace the team, followed by Green and Dinkins who each chipped in three. New Orleans hit .091 and had just nine kills.
A Heidelberg kill opened the second set for Tulane, as the Green Wave wound up taking seven of the first 10 points to go on top of the Privateers 7-3. A Douglas kill got Tulane to double figure points with the Wave with a five-point lead up 10-5. Throughout the rest of the set Tulane would be able to keep a pretty comfortable lead over New Orleans, until the Privateers pulled within two at 18-16 and helped get the squad into gear scoring the next four to make it a 22-16 game.
A kill from Dinkins, one from Heidelberg and another from Green helped secure the set for the Green Wave at 25-19, as the team was even more potent offensively in the set hitting .400 with 17 kills and only three errors in the frame.
Tulane spotted New Orleans a five-point lead to open the third set before getting a point of their own to stop the early rally, as the Privateers eventually extended their lead to 7-3. However, Tulane bounced back in a big way going on a 7-0 run to not only take the lead but go up 10-7.
The Green Wave got to the 12-point mark leading 12-9, but the Privateers stormed back claiming the next five to go up 14-12 and force Tulane into a timeout. The Green Wave eventually was able to tie the game twice at 17-17 and 18-18, but the team would not be able to overtake New Orleans dropping the set 25-20.
There were seven ties and two lead changes in the fourth set alone, the most of any other set in the match on Tuesday night, and with the Privateers holding a slim, 12-9 lead, Tulane capped a 6-0 run with a Douglas service ace to go up 15-12. A New Orleans unforced error got Tulane to 20-15, with a kill from Kristen Thompson to put the lead at 22-17 and force a New Orleans timeout.
Tulane held the Privateers to just three more points for the rest of the match, getting Green's final kill of the match to secure the victory by claiming the set 25-20.
Tulane will be back in action this weekend, traveling to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to take part in the Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational where the team will take on Ohio State, Bowling Green and Western Kentucky.
